$&#@*@! junk mail!
What is it with junk mail and no option to be removed from a mailing list?
I reply to an unwanted, unsolicited email, and get a failed delivery notice! So I cant even tell them to remove me from the mailing list, and I am sure these people sell it to others.
I have not looked at the filters for MSN8 yet, but I assume they will either block mail I want, or be ineffective.
At least outlook had better options for finding the source of anon email, and shutting them out.
Anyone have a good way to nuke these people?
I dont even sign up for anything with the MSN account in question!, where do they get the addy?!

Re: $&#@*@! junk mail!
There was an article over at Wired the other day about this. Both the MSN and Hotmail mail servers are hit heavily with dictionary email floods constantly in search of active email accounts. Once one doesn't bounce back as an error it is added to a spam list. That is why you can create a completely random Hotmail address, NEVER use it, and it will get spam within 72 hours. The kicker is that MSN does NOTHING to stop these attacks (and there are things that can be done. They just won't), so anyone who is on either MSN and Hotmail (and likely AOL as well) will constantly get spam even if they don't hand out the email address.
What can you do? I'd scrap using your MSN mail account, as even if you do try and remove yourself these folks have very little scruples and will not remove you. Heck, responding to their mail will likely get you MORE spam. Instead, for webmail I'd use Yahoo mail. I've setup accounts over there that haven't gotten spam in years.
As for POP mail...Yahoo charges a small amount for POP mail. That might be a good way to go.

I'm surprised that Geek didn't mention this - NEVER respond to the "remove me" link. Many times that just confirms to the sender that the address is valid.
If you want to try trim spam drastically, get Spamkiller. It works pretty well.

Re: $&#@*@! junk mail!
Use a POP mailserver (available at most ISP's). Most also have webmail programs so you can check your mail from anywhere.
Most ISP's have SPAM-blockers available (mine does).
If not, they can be purchased and work GREAT.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">If COTR is talking about MSN8 then he's probably got MSN as his ISP, so that's pretty much hoses his ISP mail and the idea that they would have a spam blocker.
Of course, you could always set up filters in Lookout or whatever email program you have that will look for spam and trash it. That's some simple subject and email body searching for key words.

Re: $&#@*@! junk mail!
So what is the big deal? I spend maybe 8 seconds a day deleting spam.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">You said it took you seven seconds the last time we talked about spam, so either your spam is getting worse or you're slowing down.
As we've tackled that comment before I'll let a browsing of the above thread answer the questions.
