Default Just an update on visa courtesy checks..

I tried to find my original thread but couldn't pull it up. A while back I posted on how our mail was stolen and we found out later that the mail included those blank visa type courtesy checks. Can they use them? You bet and easier than you'd ever think.
Das Dieb (the thief) managed to cash one check for $61.00 at the Beaverton K Mart..a first grader could print better including husband's name..wrote his own non Oregon driver's licence number on the check..no other information. On the checks were just our names and address. The 2nd check for $200+ was written in the same manner and accepted at the K Mart in Tualatin. We are not out any money but we had a lot of grief closing accounts and changing to a PO box. And the bank not intercepting (which they committed to do)all of our outstanding checks...from one bank dept to another. A number of them got sent back and then we were hit with fees like $30 for returned check and then $30 for a late fee (on the same checks) because the check was returned. What a pain and a little embarrassment..we had one place would not accept a letter from the bank. I should get a medal for all the phone menus I have listened
to. :depressed: I think the sorriest lesson is that KMart
couldn't have cared less and the Beaverton
police Dept wouldn't take a report on it.
By the way..channel 8 has an 11:00 piece
tonight on identity theft. I feel so much better typing this out. Thanks and hope it helps someone in the future.

a letter from the bank
