Default Skunked in Stevenson 5-3-09

Alright I'm about ready to sell my semi-bass boat, buy a northriver and just fish with all those crazy salmon people. At least I caught one of those this year.

On the water at 8AM off at 12. Fished lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, senkos, crawdad patterns. Hit several backwater type areas toward Rock Creek cove, points East and Government cove. Working rip rap, breaks, etc etc.

Main stream at 49 degrees
Coves varied from 50 - 54 degrees

Saw a few other bassies out there. You guys do any good????

I long for a day that I can put more than three fish in the boat. Any other suggestions. I know I'm no exbassguide but I've done much better back East where I learned fish this "invasive species".

Sorry for the rant, just a little frustrated.

I would stay in the main river and fish drop shots and lip less CB.
IMHO the fish are not real shallow yet.
Drop shot 20 Plus feet.

Bluknight, give it 2 weeks and I promise you wont be able to keep them off your hook in those same places. They are doing it a little farther up the river so give it a little time and it will happen there. Bill

I was just wondering that while eating dinner. I noticed the successful posts for further East seem to happen earlier and the river action heats up later the further West you go. I hope that's the case. Thanks for the words of encouragement. By the way it was a successful trip because I didn't put any new dents in my boat!

I think the water warms up first in the East. Desert country and less snow melt.

Try split-shotting yamamoto super grubs. Just drag them slowly along the bottom stopping every 3 ft or so. Use the single tail grubs in dark colors. Look for good ambush points, and small rock piles on smooth bottoms. Also, try fishing along rocky shores. Crankbaits work better for me once the little fish start becomming more aggressive next month.
