Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
As I am more than likely going to be let go due to privatization within the federal government (SPECIFICALLY because of George W), I voted yes.

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Slightly bias poll from my point of view but I think it will be interesting to see the results.
I think you could have given another choice or two here:
1 Are you suffering financially because of the Bush Administration?
2. Are you suffering because of the Clinton Administration?
3. Are you suffering because you lost your job?
4. Are you suffering because you lost money in the stock market (invested foolishly)?
5. Are you suffering because of 9/11?
6. All of the above!!!!!
Come on Sea Nymph. Be fair when posting a poll like this. It's a lot more fun bro.
Please do not be offended by my statements here. They are only meant to TRY to make a point about fairness.

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
How about "Are you suffering financially, but you don't know which party line to buy into as to who to blame"?

Geek's the closest.

|
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Try this one. Think of it as a sort of "Ready, Set, Go" contest. You can play it at Costco, Walmart, or Fred Myers (or any other store for that matter)
Find a pair of tennis shoes made in the USA.
Find a shirt made in the USA.
Find a floor-jack made in the USA.
Or for you folks who like marathons, find 50 items in the whole store made in the USA.
Check this out - it's a timber exporter from Ohio (Ohio?) who got an award (!) for...well, just check out the wording:
Quote:
He has helped to establish an innovative
transportation process for shipping logs overseas. In cooperation with Honda, he
utilizes the empty shipping containers which bring auto parts into this country for
assembly for shipping logs back to countries such as Japan, China, Malaysia and
Indonesia.
|
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Yep, those container ships that run us down on the Big River are EMPTY going home to China, Japan, Indonesia, etc. So we fill 'em up with our MANUFACTURING JOBS and ship 'em off to countries that hate our guts (like China).
So the poll should be: Buy something made in China? or Buy something made in the USA?
Look before you buy - Defend America with your dollars.
Whew! I've been needing to get that off my chest.

Ok, you guys are right. Hope you'll find my second attempt at a poll a little less bias.

Just a little less biased. Now it wants you to agree with all of them.

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Skein - Auto imports and log exports are not equivalent sides of the same coin. When we import cars, money (capital) leaves the US and goes to Japan, Korea, Germany, etc. But when logs are exported, money comes into the US and goes to the log seller, loggers, truck drivers, longshiremen, etc. Exports are good for our economy. Imports are good for the consumer (in the short run) but bad for our overall economy in the long run. Yes, lumber exports would seem like a better deal than log exports, superfically at least, but logs exports are better than no exports. Anyway, the imagined issue of widespread domestic sawmill job losses because of log exports is a red herring and not true. Mills that have modernized can and do effectively compete in the export market for logs.

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Darnit, geek, you're right again!
GSA, I can't go with you on this one. If we NEVER exported another log, we would be able to use every stick of timber cut in this country. Oh, yeah, we'd have to retool and rebuld our mills, but we'd find two things: men and women to man them, and men and women to buy the products - in a lot of cases it would be the same folks.
And you know what? Timber is one of the smaller issues.
I say again - look before you buy. Defend America with your dollars.

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
How about
Are you financially suffering because:
You are carrying over $5000 balance on a credit card? (any balance is bad)
You have more than one credit card that you are carrying a balance on
You went ahead and financed that new boat and the truck to go with it
You have a double mortgage you took out to consolidate bills (medical bills don't count)
You typically buy high end items on the spur of the moment
You go ahead and eat out or hit a blazer game even though you know you really can't afford it
on and on and on

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Skein - What's the difference between exporting wheat or exporting logs? Let's get together one more time at the pond and I'll give you the long version. We need to pick up the decoys anyway. How much longer is the season open?

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Can I get a federal susidy if i become a "flaming bag of dog poop" exporter?
I have part of the raw materials, maybe we could use some of them logs to make the bags!

How many American jobs have been lost due to foreign automobile imports, foreign fishing tackle imports, or any other foreign import?
Can you show me evidence that private log exports have caused any job losses?

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
The really sad thing is that the only thing we export better than anybody is death. that's right, we export more than three times more weapons than any other nation...over $130,000,000,000 last year.
We can't make the best car or stereo or fishing reel but we can make the best bombs, missiles, mines, etc.
Buy U.S. when you care enough to send the very best............INCOMING!!!

Re: Are you financially suffering because of the Bush Admin.?
Politics is a mess and it seems no one is really going to be completely satisfied. Clinton was satisfied but I'm sure he didn't touch that girl, the next door neighbor maybe? Then Bush, he's gotta shoot them up attitude and be a real hero and all.. oh well, he is trying to extend a little help for us poor folks who lost our jobs because Clinton was doing something else...yea politics is a mess..its just how one sees it I guess. Well anyhow, junk the politics cause the salmon fishing is going to be great this year and thats important ain't it?
