Did you buy CD music between 1995 and 2000?
I've checked this out and it is 100% legit. As part of a settlement with the music industry for price-fixing, there is a website here that is collecting names and addresses for future payment of between $5 and $20. You don't have to have proof of purchase to collect. Just enter your info (and your spouses info) and wait.
Totally serious. Go put your info in now. Max payment will be $20, but still!

Thanks for the tip, Geek. Considering the time I spent on Napster though, I think I'll just call it square.

Re: Did you buy CD music between 1995 and 2000?
I bought a lot of music for awhile, and the prices got to the point where buying on the quality of one or two good songs became prohibitive. It's the music industry's fault that their sales are down, especially unit sales.
We all know how much profit there is in CD's for the labels. What if they dropped the price of CD's down to, say, $6.99. Would you buy more CD's? Without a doubt I would. I'd take more risks on my purchases of new artists, which for them would mean greater exposure.
Personally I quit using P2P file sharing over a year ago. Now I just reserve the CD at the library and mp3 it when I get home for my portable and playing around the house. I've bought exactly two CD's in the last two years, both the same band. Known quality, worth the money.

There is a catch to the award..
If more than 8.8 million people sign up for the award, then the program is canceled and the money goes to charitable organizations.
This is because the checks would be more costly to print than their value.

As of last week only 30,000 had signed up, and this after a ton of print and broadcast media on the subject. I highly doubt that 8+ million will sign up.

I smell spam cooking. Who gets those addresses after they mail those checks out?

Nope, this is legit. It's not like that "Someone has a crush on you" thing. It's verified legit.
12. Will the information I provide on my claim form be kept confidential?
Yes. The information you provide on your claim form will be kept confidential and secure, and will be used only to determine your award under this Settlement. It will not be sold to any business for marketing purposes, or shared with anyone not a party to this litigation.
Trust me. I don't do this stuff without fully checking it out.

Re: Did you buy CD music between 1995 and 2000?
I'd buy more CD's if the price dropped. I have a ton of mp3 files but I have lousy luck with the quality of downloads from the file sharing services. Lots of skips, dead spots, etc. I'm kinda picky and I won't listen to a crappy mp3.
Anybody else having these issues?
