Been out there only once so far this year and pulled a skunk trolling. Was a couple weeks ago and dodged rain showers while I was there. Was cold and slow.
Best thing that day was watching the bike race that was going on and the post race fight at the Boat Ramp C.

Couple of spandex wearing lance Armstrong wannabee's pulling each other hair....nice.
It seems there are bike races out there all the time it gets old.
I usually hit the lake 2x a week this time of year but can't seem to break away from the late winter/spring steelhead

Re: How's hagg been this year?
It has been slow for us. The 2 of us have managed only 5 trout total, 9"-15", in the 4 times we've been there. We've tried just about everything in the tackle boxes, trolling & still fishing. All of the ones we caught were trolling. I have found June to be better fishing in the past, but of course we will be trying it this month to see if it is getting better. Good luck if you go & let us know how you do.

Re: How's hagg been this year?
Been twice this year, easy limits the last trip, 4/26. The first trip the week before really close to limits. Released most, smoked a few.

So I guess some of you guys are just going to brag & not share how you caught them. I think tatered was wondering how trolling was.

Lol! Sounds like most don't know what's working.
Try trolling needlefish, worm tipped wedding rings or rapalas behind a Ford Fender or other small flasher. Anywhere from 3 to 5 feet of leader.
Also try floating baits about 2 feet off the bottom. (powerbait, marshmallow and eggs etc)
Oh, and don't be afraid to troll out in the middle of the lake.
Good Luck!

Re: How's hagg been this year?
if you have a fly rod (especially with sinking line) - "row-troll" buggers (seal, wooly) at north end where Scoggins creek comes in and the other one (forget name. there are some "humps" there in the middle...
The confluence of those arms forms a triangle.
If you can't row, give it some 12" jigging action. maybe 60' line out.
(rowing action gives nifty fly action at perfect speed)
You can troll buggers without fly rod, but not as effective.
If you find those humps - you'll find a fish on every pass. I do every time I've been there (various months of year).
Go Olive or black. with a "bit" of flash. water is anything but clear in that lake.
Oh, and always use a loop knot (of your choice) with a bugger or you will kill the action of the fly....

Re: How's hagg been this year?
Limits caught each trip from the shore with bait. Not much catching so far this year with my fly rod using elk hair caddis, wolly buggers(green) and black ant (these will do better when the water warms up more). For bait fishing, Boat Ramp A has consistently produced limits for me using 2 feet of 4lb leader, with a small hook and two of the round, connected rubber Power Bait greenish yellow eggs. They are $4 per small jar. I caught 4 fish on the same bait before falling off. They stay on better than the paste and give the fish a chance to work at the bait before anything comes off and floats to the surface. Definitely worth the purchase. Make sure you hide the shank with the two eggs and have the hook tip sticking out the side of the lower egg. Cast your line out a few feet and check to make sure your bait floats the hook up off the bottom. If not, go to a smaller hook. Seems like the further I cast out, the bigger the fish. Use a sliding sinker and allow some belly in your line so that the fish don't feel the line before they swallow the bait. Check your bait before each cast to make sure the shank is buried in the bait. Attention to details will produce fish almost every cast. Enjoy!

Re: How's hagg been this year?
Put my boat in at ramp "A" at 8AM (Late) Saturday 5-2. Caught three 10" - 12" trolling broken back trout pattern Rappala in the rain & wind. Tried wedding rings, Thomas spoons, Rooster Tails, & other stuff.
Talked to a guy that had hammered them earlier (7AM) on a very small frog pattern Hot Shot. Probably a size 70 or 60. Of course that's the one I don't have. He said the bite stopped around 8AM.

Re: How's hagg been this year?
There is no Ramp B. There is only Ramp A and Ramp C. Hope that helps. There are both very easy to find as the road goes all the way around the lake.

I know there is no Ramp B, but I was wondering if there ever was, maybe years ago? Or it was planned, and never got built?
