|| MV TRICOLOR - PRESS RELEASE #2
There were no personal injuries when MV TRICOLOR collided with the container vessel KARIBA 20 nautic miles north-northwest of Dunkerque and sank earlier this morning. The 21 crewmembers that were picked up by the tugboat BOXER, have arrived Dunkerque and passed the mandatory medical inspection. The 3 crewmembers that were picked up by KARIBA, are expected to arrive in Antwerpen later this afternoon.
So far, there has not been reported any bunker leakage from TRICOLOR.
TRICOLOR was carrying 2,862 cars from Saab, Volvo and BMW as well as 77 units of RoRo-cargo which consisted of tractors, escalators, cranes and crane parts.
"First of all, I am very happy that the crew is safe", says Managing Director Wilhelm Wilhelmsen of Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA. " Of course we are sorry for the loss of the ship, but on the other hand we are content that there is no oil leakage from the vessel that can cause any environmental damage. There will probably be a Maritime Court of Inquiry, and we do not wish to speculate as to the cause of the accident at present time".
The insurance value of the cargo has been estimated to approx. USD 40 - 50 mill. The vessel is insured for approx. USD 40 mill

Bummer. I wouldn't want to be their insurance carrier right about now.
I saw one of their ships over at T4 when I was at Shore Terminals a few weeks ago. Looked just like this one, except it wasn't laying on its side. Kinda hard to miss those 15 foot high letters on the side. Somehow I don't think this is the kind of "name recognition" they wanted.
Is it me or do I see an oil slick? And I don't see a boom set up around it.
