Default Kokanee Power Diamond Lake Derby - No Live Bait

Concern was raised in another thread about possible use of live minnows by Californian fisherman fishing the Diamond lake derby. Below is the tournament rules for the Shasta lake derby. Please note rule #6. While it may be true that live minnows are legal in California, it does not automatically mean that they are allowed in derbies. I don't think there is a precedence for use of live bait with Kokanee Power derbies.

If you look at the application for the 2009 Diamond derby you will find that live bait other than worms is not allowed.
http://www.kokaneepower.org/derbies/20090926.pdf

I hope this helps with the concerns raised in the other thread.

Very good point FRG. Kokanee Power of Oregon does not support the use of live bait other than worms and nightcrawlers at the Diamond Lake Trout Derby. It is spelled out quite clearly in Rule #6 on the entry form that you posted a link for.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Hello FRG and Capron6,
Your comments about not using live bait in the Daimond touney are right on the mark, with the tourney rules being very explicit in stating that no live bait except worms and nightcrawlers is allowed, however are there any other steps taken by the organizers to lesson the chance of someone using live bait in the Diamond tourney?

Y'know, after 40+ years of dealing with the general public, I continue to be amazed at just how amazingly dense some people can be.

In addition to publicizing the no live bait rule, it might be helpful if the event organizers frequently and loudly announce to the participants, IF YOU DID BRING LIVE BAIT, DON'T DUMP IT INTO THE LAKE TO GET RID OF IT!

Direct them into the woods or to the cleaning station grinders.

Thank you.

Good people can be uninformed and this is too important to rely on line 6 of the tourney rules.

Call me anal, I can accept that. WE all need to do what we can do to make sure Diamond lake is not ruined again.

No disrespect intended to anyone, but habits and "what works" can be very powerful.

I apologize if I offended anyone and apologize for not getting the name of the Kokanee group correct in the other thread. However, the roots of this organization lie in Northern California, thus my own ignorance was displayed from not informing myself better.

Thank you for the clarification and for what you do for fisheries.

I am just hoping for extra caution for this tremendous fishery and tremendous place that has been an important part of my family my whole life, and before.

Hey Straydog,
Thanks for the comments you made concerning Diamond. I personally found nothing in them to apologize for. You were merely speaking from the heart, but I applaud your concern of offending someone and you graciously apologizing.

I agree that the health of Diamond Lake IS the most important thing here and the reponsibility lies with all of us to protect her.

I have no problem with KP or the people who manage it, belong or wish to particapate in their events, I wish them success in their efforts to fullfil their mission statement. But when it comes to Daimond Lake I too become very concerned and like you very protective.

Maybe some day we will bump into each other up there?

Thanks again
