Default How to bungle fishing for sea-run cutts

1. See sea-runs boiling on thousands of chum fry swimming a long cast off a Puget Sound beach on Tuesday night.
2. Spend more than an hour bombing on of Bob Triggs' Chum Baby flies out to the faraway fish.
3. Finally notice that the cutts are no longer boiling on the offshore chum fry.
4. Turn around and find the cutts chasing chum fry behind you.
5. Cast for those fish with a fly that has a broken hook.

More in my blog....

I'm going to Hood Canal this weekend, would there be a chance of catching cuttys now. I have never fished for them in the salt so not sure of time frame.

This is a great time to fish cutts in Hood Canal. Make sure the tide is moving, look for current seams and fish hard!
Hood Canal fish are pretty silly this time of year for sand lance and chum fry patterns.....

Just wade out and fish from the bank? What rod size would you recommend? I was going to take my 5 wt. I have a floating line but I have weighted flies.

Wading out is how I do 90 percent of my sea-run fishing, and most anglers use a 5 weight or 6 weight rod.

Remember, barbless hooks -- and you have to release all cutts caught in saltwater, which is a good thing....

Hey Chester, I'm heading out tonight for Hood Canal. i'm trying to find a picture of the fly mentioned. I' taking my 5 wt. and I think my boy's (ages 11 And 14) are wanting to take theirs too. Are there any other patterns you would suggest?

I have photos of Chum Baby flies -- Bob Triggs' great pattern -- on my blog.... You can also probably hook fish on beadhead olive Woolly Buggers, scud flies and Clouser Minnows.
