Default High Water Tactics?

Anyone out there sick of looking at snow? I am looking at the end of the week.....when all the snow and Ice melts. I will be on the river! Anybody with good secrets on fishing for steelhead in high off color water? Other than bright colors and work the shoreline. I dont know if I will take the boat or not........so boat techniques that work would be appreciated also!

It is a running theme that folks fish the "edges" when there's high water. When it's at flood stage, you should sort of stay away though. Assuming you are fishing a river you know, fish where you know the fish hold. Folks who do lots of catching during high water generally have put in time during all stages on the river and have learned where and when to expect fish. If you're just looking for an excuse to go, then go; and be careful. As far as boat tips...WATCH FOR DEBRI. The kind of water that will be in the river anytime real soon is not easy...and depednign on where you fish might contain some of what I like to call Logs. Have fun!

If you take your boat pull plugs that have rattles and color and fish the softest water still allowing your plugs to work and scent up be ready to row like crazy though. The last high water a friend and I fished like everyone says close to shore around obsticles like grass clumps and such and hooked six fish. I was pretty surprised to say the least. we used bigger presentations and scent.
