Default Clackamette Lake

I have lived here all my life but haven't tried fishing Clackamette Lake. It's the one connected to the Clackamas river just above the 99 bridge. Are there fish in it and if so what kind? Can a full sized boat get in there, or should I canoe it? What about bank access? Sorry about all the dumb questions but like to do some checking before so I don't cause any trouble. Thanks in advance

It's pretty deep once you get past the sandbar at the mouth of the lake. I saw an article in the Fishing and Hunting News that said there are bass in there, but I've spent several hours in there on separate occasions without a bite.

i have been there twice for a couple hours during the summer and had one bite on bobber and worm, it was most likely a smolt. talked to a guy fishing at the ramp and he got 2 smolt in a couple hours. yes there is bank access, i think you can walk all the way around the lake.

We took the canoe out there in Clackamette Cove today. Some guys were on the bank catching some fish (although I think they were C&R-ing salmon/steelhead smolts, but admittedly, we were too far away to tell exactly what).

There are certainly carp in there (my wife got one on a Rapala of all things last year!), but we have yet to find some bass in there. We didn't get anything, although we had a few bites--we figured smolts messing with our senkos, and Paula even got a fish to do a drive by on her Rapala again, but it didn't stick, either.

The sheriff's boats are in the cove, too. They motored up to say hello, see how the fishing was and checked to see if we had life vests. Nice guys, real friendly!

From my experiences there, it's not the fishiest of places, but it's a great place to take the canoe.
