Default Need a new Winch.

My current winch, a Fulton T1801 is done, stripped-out gear teeth and stripped -out handle.
Looking for some advice: Brand, weight rating (does it need to be rated to pull the total boat weight? ), features, 1 or 2 speed, where to buy?

Boat info: 22' inboard jet, Weighs approx. 4000-4500 # (educated guess).

Thanks for any help O' Wise Ones!

Assumption:

why are you dragging the boat onto the trailer the entire distance? If you cant drive it on, at least put more trailer in the water. You can install guides to center the boat on the bunks. When you drag it out, it will be centered.

You can also reduce the friction on the contact areas and install the next larger winch.

I actually watched a guy TRY to winch his boat on and the tires were barely wet. The front end of his boat was nearly 10 feet in the air. Idiot.

I power that "baby" right up to the roller/guide. And if anything, my driver usually puts the trailer in to deep. ( I'm working on Him. ) It's that last foot or so of cinchin' it up that's done it.

After doing a little research, it looks like the Fulton 1801 (1800#) is under-sized for my boat. Shame on you Tow-Rite for putting an 1800# winch on a trailer rated up to a 5500# boat.
It appears most manufactures recommend a winch rated at 50-75% of boat weight.

So I should be looking for one rated 2000-2500#.
