Default Lowrance Ifinder and MapCreate 6

Anyone tried this combo out for river navigation? How detailed is the MapCreate software in relation to river buoys, range markers, land and island location? Is the software easy to transfer to the ifinder? I have the Ifinder and am looking at getting the mapping software, if the detail and ease of use is there. Any info appreciated.

I just got that software with the finder I got in my new boat. It transfers easily, is very easy to use and has all the channel markers, islands, warning marker, bouys, bells, sunk ships, resturants, etc, etc, etc...

I would highly reccomend!

There's a rumor that MapCreate 7 will have bathometric data ... now that would be a real bonus. The only way to get that now is with Navionics.

I have MapCreate 6. (e-mail me if you want to know where to get the best deal!) The primary benefit of MC6 over the info pre-loaded in a Lowrance is the ability to move data back and forth between your finder and your computer.

Before you buy the iFinder, pull the faceplate and check out the exposed electronics! If you are OK with a unit that is not waterproof, then Lowrance is OK. Their marine electronics are in my opinion without peer but I think that the iFinder is not up to their usual standards.
I ended up purchasing a Garmin Vista, mostly for hunting and finding my way back to the dock in the fog. I am very happy with the unit itself and the Mapsource software.
Maybe your should check out Lowrance's fishfinder GPS combos. . .
Good luck

I been looking for months at all the brands. But one thing is for sure, color is out in force, and the prices are starting to drop. Finally, some reprieve for the poor people in the world. Lowrance, has probably the largest collection of fixed mount dual mode units, and they brag that they are waterproof. Garmin still wants an arm and a leg for their units Furino, Raymarine, Sci-Tex, Northgate, Interphase. Well, I don't drive porsches, nor can I afford a Ferrari..... ha ha.. Thats my two "scents". Can't spell Ferrari either.. ha ha.

I gota tell you, I love Lowrance. I have used their products since 1997. Have had to deal with them on repair issues as well. They are first rate all the way. I have had the ifinder for almost 2 years now, using it with the MapCreate software. It works flawlessly. With the waterproof bag that it came with I have used it in down pouring rain with no problems at all, with the bag of course.

Love it and highly recommend it...

I heard that they are going to come out with a waterproof model later this spring.
