Default Rubber snubber for Kokanee

Took a friend to GP a couple weeks back, he landed 1 12" koke while losing 4 about 20' from the boat. His tackle was a dodger and a Apex, he refuses to use a snubber. Where as I always use a snubber and lose few kokes. Whats your take on snubbers?

Use a altra light rod and let it do the work. A Kokanee rod.

I never use them anymore. I learned on here to set the drag very light and reel slow. If they want to jump near the boat, stick your rod tip in the water.

Kokanee seem to panic when they see the boat. If you are using an ultra light rod and lure or lure with small dodger from a downrigger then you probably don't need a snubber. If you are using a string of flashers, large dodger, or weight to get down then use the snubber even with the ultra light. Kokanee will use the drag of weight, dodger, poping gerar, etc. for leverage to pull the hook out.

--light tip on rod and light drag.
--Some lakes I fish have single barbless hook regulation due to trout fishing regulation.
--using larger hook with "J" curve or other deep curve reduces hook throw.

--found snubber can disguise hit from smaller fish on downrigger so can end up dragging small fish around if clip doesn't release

Proper kokanee gear preclude the need for snubbers IMHO.

Here is a thread dedicated to landing more kokanee.
