Opening weekend report - Wikiup-Suttle
Wikiup was a bust. Up at 4:00am and on the road early. An early sign of a rough day was the spilling of coffee on my wrist complete with blisters. The next sign was the road construction on Century. Just a bit rough! A big thanks for the Bump sign placed right at the bump instead of 50-75 yards ahead of it. The boat launch appeared to be a lot better than it was. From the boats that wouldn't start and the boat waiting to come back in to put the plug in, a guy long lining between the no wake buoy and the dock it was a little more than busy, but we managed. We headed off towards the dam and quickly determined that, at least for us, the lake was going to be unfishable. We never even got a line wet and decided to get out before the mass exodus could occur. We were loaded up at in the driveway at 9:30am.
Sunday morning we headed for Suttle and it looked like it was going to be a repeat of the previous day. But, the wind stopped and it was an enjoyable day on the water. We saw a bald eagle right away and figured if he's fishing so should we. While the wind was still up, we anchored and I caught 3 tiny kokanee vertical jigging in 63 feet of water. I really hope that they are next years' fish. 6 and 7 inch kokanee aren't much for fillets. After it died down, I marked a lot of fish 13'-20' off of the 10 MPH buoy in the middle of the lake. I threw the tackle box at them for about 3 hours without a hook up before we called it a day.
