Default Being a nice guy??

A couple of nights ago I went down to the local watering hole to have dinner. Only place in town open late enough for me to eat after work. After eating I had a couple of brews and played some pool. Was just about to leave when an aquaintance came in looking for someone to tow his nephew out of a mud hole. Well me being the only one around at the moment with a 4x4, he ask me if I would. He assured me it was a nothing to it task. So off we went. Just a half mile out of town. Down this narrow track with bad ruts, raining and blowing. I'm not dressed for the weather and I'm not interseted in getting my shoes ruined in the mud. So I ask him to turn the hubs in. We go down this tunnel thru the brush and here is a nice chevy stuck bad. The water in the ruts is up to the bumper. Well they had a chain so they got to hook it up. I pulled and pulled about ten times getting a little rougher each time. finally got him off high center and pulled back a ways. They unhooked the chain and I started to back out of there. No where to turn around so I had to back out all the way. First thing that happened was a briar grabbed my lip. Almost all the way back to the gravel road there was a gate. It had swung partway across the road, but was on the part of the road I couldn't see. So I hear this crunch and glass breaking. So I get a dented tailgate and a canopy window broken. So while I'm surveying the damage they tell me there is another rig a little futher in than the one I pulled out. I told them it would be a lot cheaper for me if they would have just called a tow truck, and that I wasn't driving in there again. That chevy was really high centered and my ford wasn't going to go any futher than that chevy had. I drove on home and the next morning went to turn my hubs out and they had only turned one in. Didn't hurt any thing but would have pulled a lot better if I had 4 wheel drive engaged. So much for being in the wrong place at the right time. Just need to learn to say NO. :depressed:

I hope that this person has offered to pay at least part of the repair bill on your crunch.

Ya know what? The next time someone asks you to do something like that, you will do it again.

Ya know why? 'Cuz you are a nice guy.

The world needs more nice guys. Don't talk yourself into not being one. When you are old you will be glad you lived your life as a nice guy, even when it cost you a little money.

Yep, it's true - you did it because you are a good guy, and as Crabbait says, the world needs good guys. I say kudo's to you.

I'm with Crabbait and Skein on this one.

Yup, what happened to your rig sucks and hopefully the people at least offered to help offset your cost of repair.

On the other hand, you represent what really makes life on earth worthwhile and important.

As my mother says, there is a special place in heavan for people like you!

Thanks for doing what you can do!

You did what you should have done. Bummer about the dammage to your truck. I have a winch on my truck and it helps but I probably would have backed into it too.
