Default Not really a newbie introduction, but

I've been on Ifish for sometime, mainly in the hunting section. Well, my hunting has slowly decreased and I've decided I need to take life a bit slower and utilize what I have.

I got my father's fly fishing gear out (a pair of bamboo rods and two Plueger 1774 reels, plus a small box of flies) and went down to Salem to Creekside Fly Fishing to see if they were reasonable to use on my pond for bluegill and small mouth bass. The gear is a bit large for my needs so I bought a fishing combo kit and some flys to begin my new journey.

I had tagged along with my dad back in the 60's to the Owens river in California while he fly fished and I walked the banks with spinners. I was young and had too much energy to burn with no patience so fly fishing wasn't for me, then.

Now that I've matured (in some people's eyes) I'm looking forward to catching my pond residents and when I get some confidence in my abilities, venturing out and exploring the waterways.

I read the epiphany thread and would rate myself at a -1 on that scale at this point. I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions.

Thanks,

John

Welcome aboard.

The best way to learn and improve your fly fishing is to get out there and fish.

Beeatease: There are no stupid questions...........only stupid answers. I don't consider myself a great flyfisher, but I have caught larger trout than most flyfisher's will ever experience, because I go fishing a lot. You have identified the secret to success "I need to take life a bit slower and utilize what I have". Tight lines!

Just remember that "fly fishing isn't always about the catching", as some other members of the board have noted so wisely. I will caution you though, this is a highly addictive sport that will always have something new for you to learn (and spend more money on).

Enjoy your new addiction

It's the journey that counts.....and buying new toys....
