Default Help!! Xmas present for First Mate ...

OK, I've got a major problem brewing! I need suggestions for
what to get my wife for Xmas. I asked her what she wanted
this year and all I can get is "Oh, I don't know".

Here is the delemma: Last month was our 30th anniversary.
A week and a half before our actual anniversary date I took
her up to Orcas Island to a nice little honeymoon cottage
(with a hot tub) for four nights. During our stay I gave
her a dimond and gold anniversary ring. On the actual date of
our anniversary I sent a dozen long-stem red roses to
the school where she works to the "ohs and ahhs" of all
the rest of the girls that work there. I did good!!

After doing all that, I've run out of Ideas as to what to
get her!!! Yesterday she told me that she hated her vacuum
cleaner and wanted to get a Kirby. After 30 years of being
married I KNOW better than to fall in *that* trap!

She doesn't fish and only goes out on the boat occasionally
(bad tummy). Her only interests seem to be messing about
the houses and being with the grand-babies. HELP!!

Anybody got any really cool suggestions for what I should
do this year?

TIA,
-assAssin-

Get her the Kirby

My wife paid more for her Kirby than I sold my aluminum driftboat for. And I didnt even get to claim it was a present, and still got to pay for the expenditure. My theory is if she is gonna buy it anyway, might as well make it a gift.

Bait O' Eggs:

I'm not sure that's such a good idea!! It's ok for her to
buy ME tools, but if I buy her something like a Kirby I'll get the
"look" (and probably not much else) for a loooonnng time!

As for poetry as the Geek suggested ... hmmmm. I don't think
that one has a high enough price tag. But thanks anyway!

With all you've done so far, you should be getting a "Get out of Christmas Free" card.

But if you must get something, how about a day that the spa? I think there are a few of them downtown, especially on northwest trendy third.

DO NOT BUY HOUSE CLEANING STUFF FOR A GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sweet jesus man,,dont do it.!!!

Find a hobby she has, however small it is, and make it a theme Christmas, but a whole bunch of small gifts for that hobby. Then buy a nice watch or neckless or somthing to top it off.

If you get her a vacume, you might as well get her an iron, an apron and come curlers too,,,,,,then sell your boat,,, you wont need it anymore.....

Just saw another thread and it gave me an idea....how about a digital camera? (if she doesn't already have one)

right after i posted, my wife said "How about rubber stamping? she can do scrapbooking, cards, gifts....etc" (and it just so happens that my wife sells them! ha ha ha)

You may not want my advice. I am asking santa for a new fishing vest for Christmas.

I don't know about the spa thing. Not all ladies like the whole package deal. Some of us don't like a stranger doing our hair/nails if we have a regular person we go to. A weekly massage would be pretty cool though.

Being a practical person, I enjoyed getting my car detailed as a gift.

Tickets to a special concert or play?

Round trip airline ticket to visit family or friends?

A portrait if you haven't had one done in a while.

If you do the poem thing, video tape yourself reading it and give it along with the written work.

You'd be surprised how much "value" a well-written poem printed on nice paper and framed has for a woman. I did that one year for Christmas and I don't think that I've bought a gift since that comes close to that one for reaction.

Of course, I didn't start it out with "Roses are Red" so maybe that made it all the better.

Silly men. Get her diamond earrings/necklace to match the ring. If she wants to wear them everday just get solitaires.

From what you said in your post "Her only interests seem to be messing about
the houses and being with the grand-babies." here's an idea for ya.

Get her a house cleaner for the day and send her to a spa for full day of pampering.

You have definitely "set the bar too high" with all this gold/diamond/roses/Orcas Island deal. It's either diamond necklace or a Mercedes-Benz at this point! Certainly not the Kirby.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">The necklace is out ... she says I've bought her too much
jewlery over the past few years (Too much?? Isn't that like
too much power on the boat?). The Mercedes-Benz is a little
beyond my reach ...

... but good ideas! Keep 'em coming!

For my first wife I got her some nice Alvins
The second wife, I gave a nice salmon pole
For the third wife, I got her a used kicker motor
Actually I'm still on #1 and she does get Alvins. I vote for the digital camera, what a great toy to take pictures of the grandkids and e-mail to everybody

OK, this is what I came up with (thanks for all of the
suggestions ... I was able to hint about some of these to
my Mate and she was able to hint back about which ones would
suit her and which wouldn't).

First of all, she hinted that she *does* want jewelery again this
year (There are some nice diamond stud earings at such-and-such
store for $XX.xx that I wouldn't mind having).

I've also been listening to her say that a full body message
at the place next to the doctors office ... a gift certificate
would be nice.

The digital camera idea was great, but we just bought an expensive
one this past summer to take pictures of the boat ... so she's
not real interested in that ...

I tried the poem thingy ...
(The ocean is green, the sky is blue,
Ain't nobody I love better than you ...)
But somehow it just doesn't seem to be working out!

I did find her some really nice candles and some pretty
candle holders. The candles are blue and as they burn down
into the ball they show sparkles ... kind of like the sky late
at night. They might be useful for those romantic times?

The vacuum cleaner will NOT happen. Never again will I be
*that* stupid!!

I think I might follow chummers advice and get her that nifty
watch!! And what a DEAL!!

Thanks again for all of the suggestions ...

It is nice that he cares enough to ask.

I hated my Kirby. Big clunky machine. Way over rated and over priced.

Merry Christmas!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Heh, great idea except we got one of those LAST year and spent
*way* too much ... but there *are* a lot of boat toys that I'd like
to get her! Like a radar ... like a dink with a little kicker motor ...
like all new electronics (Foruno ... I'm very displeased with my
Raytheon/RayMarine chart plotter/fish finder) ...

Oh, wait, buying stuff for the boat to give her for presents is
almost as bad as buying her a vacuum cleaner! Whew, THAT was
a close call!! Hanging around with you people is going to get me
into hot water yet! Y'all are a bad influence!

If the money isn't an issue. Get her the vacuum and give it to her first. Get the earrings and the spa trip, and give them to her later in the day. Call it "The big let down with a strong finish."

AARRRGGGG!!! NO DOGS! If you couldn't tell, I'm not a dog lover ...
allergies, you know?? The dander plugs me up, makes my nose run and makes
my eyes swell shut! Only thing worse than dog dander is CAT dander!
Yech! Besides, she already has a dog!

PS, I went to the store she told me to and looked at the ear rings that she
mentioned (they were about $60). I was sorely disappointed! They were *really*
tiny ... more diamond chips than real diamonds ... and the color! Don't even
get me started on *that*!!! They were YELLOW. About the lowest grade of
diamonds that you could buy! Maybe one step below industrial diamonds.

So anyway, I went to another jewler and found her a nice set of diamond
stud ear rings (1/3 carrat), set in 24K gold, second to the top grade
for color and clarity for about 400 bucks. Unfortunatly that pretty much taps me
out for the year!! Oh well, she's worth it ...

30 years and counting!

Right-on Fish Assassin. A woman can never have too many diamond earrings. I know I love mine!! My hubby and I are into our 34th year and it just keeps getting better!! I forgot to say congratulations on your anniversary!
