Default I feel for you AT&T broadband users

I just read you have to change your email address- AGAIN.

What a pain.

Actually I won't. Other than my own domain that I have we also use an email forwarding service called mail.com. For $10 a year we have an @mail.com email address, and whenever we need to redirect it to another address (change of ISP, ISP gets bought out) we just go to the website and change it. Nobody has to change their email address for us, it always stays whatever@mail.com.

Pretty schnazzy.

I saw it in the Columbian and the Oregonian this morning. The worst part is all the websites that require you to use your e-mail address to register, that we'll have to change!

Hopefully this time they will have the decency to forward mail to the new addresses. When at@t and @home split, @home treated us like ugly stepchildren!

Yes that includes me. I just hate this!!! We just went through this 18 months ago!!
I phoned Customer Service last week to express my dissatisfaction, and was told of many, many similar complaints. Also those who have a user name that conflicts with an existing Comcast user, the AT&T user will have to pick a new user name as well!! Why is it that big businesses just don't any sympathy for the end consumer. This whole thing is about Comcast having their name only, on all accounts and servers. It all could have been so easy, if not for Comcast's demand for their name to supercede all else.

I missed that article on the Orgonian, so when does this new change become effective? Thanks!

It's not that big of a deal for me. It also seems quite unnecessary, they could just redirect the @attbi mail ... when Earthlink bought teleport, I kept my @teleport address for a couple of years!

Oh, well, it's good to have warning, thanks. When they did the @home change, I just changed everyone to @attbi, it was pretty well publicized.

Thanks guys!

You know, I just love this technological revolution we're going through, but I sometimes miss the good ol' days when things didn't change so fast. Good thing I kept my yahoo e-mail accounts.

On a different note, I have suspended buying any new PC or electronic gadgets, as they become obsolete way before you get your money's worth from their service, IMO. I've got so many video cards, modems, ADSL modems, and not to mention old motherboards and CPUs lying around the house to fill a ....

ultralight:

Buy a computer for what you need now, plus a bit more. No matter what you buy as far as computers go there will always be something released shortly that will make your purchase obsolete.

So what if it is obsolete! Does the system you currently have do what you want it to do? Unless you're a hardcore gamer that needs the fastest of everything to play the latest in FPS games then whatever you buy today should last you for a couple of years at LEAST. Sure it'd be great to be rendering video project in a couple of hours compared to overnight, or encoding mp3's at 15 times the normal play speed, but does my normal use justify it? Nope.

Most of the time my system is used for nothing more than browsing, emailing, and document creation, and a faster processor isn't going to get any of that done quicker than it does now. Even my 8x10 digital images do fine with what I've got now. And as far as CPU speed goes, I'm at less than half of what the top of the line is now.

Don't buy into the constant upgrade cycle. Most of the time there is no reason why a person has to have the latest and greatest in hardware. Do what I do, and wait for the gamers to make stuff much better than I have obsolete so that I can pick it up for a song at discounters.

Cool Texan: I have a daughter in need of computer that she can use for e-mail mostly. She keeps in touch with a list server for her chronic disease. It doesn’t need to be much, just fairly reliable as I don’t need to run over there every day to fix her computer. How Much?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Install Mandrake Linux on that baby and you've got quite the system. That's what I'm running on my HP PII 450 server and I've had no problems whatsoever. I also run it on my Athlon 1200 and it's great.
