Default Taking a 9yr old boy fishing on Saturday Afternoon... Central Oregon... suggestions?

I'm taking my 9yr old nephew fishing Saturday afternoon somewhere around Central Oregon/Bend

I want to make this a positive & dare I say " a sure thing" if possible.

The preference is to bank fish if I can help it, but I've got the boat as well.

Any suggestions from those who would know?

Thanks

Check out Fireman's pond in Redmond. Bluegill and hatchery trout. Nothing closer to a sure thing than that, if it's been recently stocked.

If it's been stocked, my son takes his daughter to Shelvin Pond in Bend. He says there is lots of fish when its stocked, pretty area too.

If it is open i would say south twin. It may be a bit crowded.

Dont be the one not catching fish for a kid. Forget the red and white bobber, Lg brass swivel, and pretied short heavy leader and big worm hook that wont produce fish on the bank.

Light mainline, weighted foam cigar float, small swivel, small splitshot, long very light leader, and a very small hook.
Pautzkes, sinking Gulp, or a bit of worm will produce much better results for the kids.
If not, use sliding egg sinker above swivel with 2-3ft of very light leader and floating powerbait type offering.

Id check Shevlin Pond, ODFW will know whats happening lately, the ODFW volunteer that made it for kids only would also know.

I'll second South Twin. Plenty of bank access and wind protection, with a real good chance at catching a few fish on the opener.
