Default To be a Democrat

To be a Democrat, you have to believe that

1. The AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

2. Trial lawyers are selfless heroes and that doctors are overpaid.

3. Global temperatures are affected more by a suburban soccer mom driving an
SUV than by documented, cyclical variations in the brightness and intensity
of the sun.

4. Guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than
nuclear, chemical and biological weapons in the hands of Saddam Hussein.

5. Businesses create oppression and government creates prosperity.

6. Self-esteem is more important than doing anything to earn it.

7. There was no art before federal funding.

8. The NRA is a bad organization because it stands up for certain parts of
the Constitution, but the ACLU is a good organization because it stands up
for certain parts of the Constitution.

9. Taxes are too low but ATM fees are too high.

10. Standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas are not.

11. ANY change in the weather is proof of global warming.

12. National wealth is determined by what we consume, not by what we
produce.

13. The only wars in which America should become involved are those in which
our national security is not at risk.

14. Perjury and obstruction of justice are impeachable if a Republican
president commits them but a harmless, private matter if a Democrat
president commits them.

15. America can have a strong military without spending money on it.

16. The way to improve public schools is to give more money and power to the
very people who have misused that power and money to destroy the public
schools.

17. Hunters and fishermen do not care about the environment but pasty-faced
activists that rarely venture out-of-doors do.

18. A bureaucrat living in Washington, D.C. can make better decisions about
how to spend the money that you earn than you can.

19. Being a movie or television star qualifies you to speak out on public
policy.

20. Hillary Clinton is a wonderful example for young women of feminine
independence even though she has never accomplished anything worthwhile
without riding on the coattails of her husband.

21. A handful of religious whackos living in rural Texas are more of a
threat to public safety than Islamic terrorists who wish to plant bombs in
major American cities.

22. Passing new laws are a much better way to curb crime than enforcing the
existing ones.

23. Tax cuts are for people who donąt actually pay income taxes.

That's a darned good question, STG Rule!

Firedog - I'm with you on all of 'em except the denial of the possibility of human-caused global warming thru fossil fuel use.

Over billions of years the Earth's coal, oil & gas deposits were formed and one of the byproducts of that gradual accumulation (via photosynthesis) was free oxygen. Our atmosphere is now about 20 or 21% oxygen, I think, but billions of years ago there was far less of it in what passed for air. The atmosphere then would have been poisonous for most present day life forms.

Humans are burning the stored fossil fuels at a very rapid rate and the reverse could be predicted to happen - the composition of the atmosphere will revert to previous conditions as the fossil fuels are consumed.

People driving big rigs use a lot more fossil fuel than if they drove fuel efficient cars and will affect the atmosphere in direct relation to the amount of fossil fuel they burn. It seems logical - and shouldn't be a Republican/Democrat issue. But it is.

And believe liars like Clinton and Gore. To be open minded, but only with those that are as ignorant as yourself.

Geek "the spelling ****",
It has been a long day, I started at 04:30 and spelled a word wrong, at least I am smart enough to not believe DNC lies and propaganda.

Shane,
Did you get your play book from the DNC or directly from Herr Dashell? I listen to NPR but read a lot of other news.

You boys are a bit touchy here, could it be that the truth hurts?

Great. More partisan bickering. Just what this country needs.
The only problem I have with Firedog's tirade is the first line- "To be a Democrat"
I discovered the coolest thing a long time ago-

You don't have to vote along party lines!!

Yes, I admit it's radical and revolutionary. But it's kind of fun to think for yourself once in a while.

This was an e-mail I recieved the other day. I thought it was funny and that others might enjoy it. If you find one that is about how to be a good Republican put it up, I will read it and I will laugh. Now lighten up a bit, it was meant to be funny

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Heck if I know. I'm not a Republicrat. I'm one of those rare birds that would rather listen to both sides of the story and make up my own mind, instead of relying on what the party tells me. From past experience I've learned that following a party blindly is not right.

Firedog said that he thought that putting that up might be funny. What emails like that do is dig the canyon that separates parties deeper. And as most Americans believe that they have to subscribe to one of the two main parties, that only makes things worse.

I know very insightful Republicans and Democrats. I also know some very closed minded people from both parties. Maybe a day will come when people from both parties will come together, recognize a problem, and FIX it without asking someone at HQ how they should feel about it.

Firedog,

I thought it was funny. Way too many panties in a bind over the whole party lines thing.

I'll do a little disclaimer. The panties in a bind comment is not directed to anybody in particular as far as their sex goes.

Shane, you must listen to independant thinkers like Chris Matthews, Allen Combs, The Rev. Jackson, Al Sharpton, Dan Rather and the whole CNN team. Talk about some "HOT AIR".

Can't agree with all in the original post but found some of it pretty darn funny. Where did you find this Al Gore profile?

I remember when I was one of them in the sixties. Then I grew up! Some people never grow up so they stay Dims! Or they work for the government and know that being a Dim is the best way to ensure job security!

Firedog,

I grew up a dim but after seeing them hand over our futures and the futures of my children to the highest bidder, I changed.

Some great things occurred in the 60s due to dims (Miranda, Escobeda (sp), civil rights, and the war on poverty [even though we spent more on one aircraft carrier then on the poverty]). President Carter was truly the last great democrat president.

I thank those who were true dims for backing off the government and fighting for our rights.

However, it has all changed. The dims have no rudder yet they keep their engines on full throttle. They lie to their selves about Clinton and Gore (and locally Kitzhauber). They make claims about their marvelous economy but fail to give recognition to Reagan and Bush who set it up for them to run in the ground.

Thank God, we didn’t have Gore in office on September 11, 2001, as he would have immediately surrendered and converted the United States to Muslim.

Kruechief

PS: Geek, feel free to shift the focus to Keta and my spelling and away from the issues, shift blame to the schools, our family and the lack of social programs for our inability to spell and then create a huge bureaucracy to oversee…. nothing.

Oh wait, someone’s already doing that, it’s the DNC!

Wow, I am glad I finally checked out the general chat line. It is much more interesting than the general fishing discussion section, now that Fall salmon fishing has slowed. This is like having a political discussion with my father. Hell, it's like having a political discussion with everyone's father all at once.

The thing I like most about discussing politics with my dad (a staunch republican) is when I get to remind him that, althought he worked for the "private sector," in reality he was feeding from the public trough along with the best government workers. That's because he worked in the defense industry and all their dough comes from government contracts. And on top of that they get to make a profit off our taxes!

when was it that the d's started looking like the r's? i think i missed that one.

my 2 c's worth... i think of myself as an i but still support defense, the right to own guns, less government control, lower taxes (use taxes wiser - not more of it) and i hate to see a baby killed because somebody made a mistake and got pregnant. i like to hear "Merry Christmas" and i don't have a problem with my kid saying the pledge in school. i do have a problem with schools putting it in the kids head god is bad and gays are good. i don't have a problem with gays but there are other places for her to learn about that stuff. why talk about either one? school is for academics and sports - unless maybe they wanted to give credit for fishin'....

sea nymph,

what I meant was the Ds and Rs are rich white guys in blue suits and red ties, representing their contributors.

I like the "less government control" alongside the anti-abortion thing. Nice. "Less government control" - Ashcroft needs a database of which books I check out from the library, where I use my credit card ... "Less government control" - if I grow the wrong plant I go to prison.

Nice.
