Default Xbox or PlaystationII ??

So who makes the best game set up? X-box, playstation II, Nintendo.........

What makes one better than the other? do all the games work in each system or do the games only work for the system they are designed?

I have not started looking around yet and thought I might get a little information early.

BOE with a video game box in the house? What is the world coming too? You sure your TV is up to the task?

Sorry I cant help out. All I know is they are addicting, at least that is what my friends say that have then. Cost is like $150 - $200 for the box and $50+- per game. I dont think the games are interchangable.

I hadn't had a video game since my old Nintendo (10 plus years ago when I was about 20) when I bought an X-Box last winter. Game consoles have come so far it is unreal. I love the X-box. I was a little hesitant because of the lack of games for the X-Box (compared to Playstation 2), but the games have come out quickly and not been an issue. I have since played all 3 systems (X-Box, Gamecube, PS2) so I can give you my take on them. The X-Box is superior technically. The video card and hard drive configuration in the X-Box is a great setup. There are no additional memory cards needed. The graphics are the best of the 3. I also like the controller the best out of the three. The game selection is good and getting better. The Playstation2 has the best game selection. On the same game, the graphics are better on the X-Box though. The controller is good on the PS2 also. The Gamecube is good if you want the traditional Nintendo games, like Mario. I didn't care for the Nintendo controller compared to the other two. if you are going to have kids playing the console also, you might want to lean towards the PS2 or Gamecube. The X-box games are (mostly) geared towards the older players (not little kids). If you are interested in"modifying" the console, the PS2 is the easiest. The X-Box can be done, but it is more intensive than the PS2. I don't know about the Gamecube. Game prices are comparable for all of them (about $50). I have bought games off Ebay for about half that. Nothing is interchangeable between the consoles. Best thing is to go down to Walmart and check out the demos. Also look at the game titles and see which console has the titles that intersest you. If you find you like the X-Box titles, and you do not need games like Mario on Gamecube, go with the X-Box. You will not be disapointed. If you have any other questions, email me and I will try to help.

Never played an X-Box but I have a PS2 & N64.
Cool thing about my PS2 is that it doubles as a DVD player. It also plays the old PS1 games. I don't know if the X plays DVD's.
The infared remote & memory cards didn't come with my PS2, but are "must haves". Only came with 1 controller BTW.
Bought the PS2 a year ago for $300, and they're not any cheaper now. The remote & memory card will set you back about another $60, and Sony controllers are about $30. I wouldn't recommend the "generic" controllers.

I sure miss my Dreamcast........ :depressed:

the X-Box plays DVD's also. it also has the option of letting you save music from CD's, on the systems hard drive, to play during the games. Prices are down on them now to around $200.

BOE,
The difference in graphics between the ps II and the X-box is so minor that you probably would have a hard time telling the difference. If I were you I would go with ps II because the number of games you can play on it is almost endless. And because you can play ps1 games on a ps2, you will spend alot less money on the games.

I like the X box.
The games are not as violent, at least they used to not have games as violent... They may now.
I chose the X box just for that reason, and the kids are very happy. Too happy.

I own a PS2, and wish I had bought an X-box. I think there is a huge difference in the quality of games and graphics between the two. X-box is coming out with some really incredible new games.

I have a PS2 hidden in the garage for the kids for Christmas. I decided to get the PS2 because of the game assortment and focus. The PS2 seemed to have more games oriented for the younger kids, while the XBox appears to be largely targeted at older teens and adults. With these things, it's all about the software - find the games you want to play and get the box that will play them.

Get an xbox for 2 reasons, 8gig Hard Drive, and an ethernet connection....What are these for, you ask? The large Hard Drive allows you to rip CD's to listent to them while you play games, also XBOX live just went live. This allows you to use your XBOX's ethernet connection and your broadband (DSL or CABLE) connection to play other XBOX owners online. Add a headset and you can actually talk to them while you play!! The price has come way down, this Friday at Wal#### has em with 3 game 2 controllers for 199.99.

I have the PS2 and like it. I find the PS2 has more games, user friendly controllers, can play DVD's, Music CD's, and old playstation games as well. There are alot of games out there for the PS2 that are $19.99 and lower. Also herd that the Nintindo might not me making game systems for much longer, just games for other systems. Like what happened to Sega. The X-Box is soon to follow. This will probably happen when Sony introduces the PlayStation 3 in the year 2004. Sony is working on a system with IBM and some other huge company (I forget who) that is going to blow the socks off of the other companies. Just read this in an electronics artical a couple months ago. So there you have it! I would go with the PS2. One more thing, the playstation also has the DSL connection and headphone communication while online.

We have both in our house. The X-Box is used 90% of the time. There are a lot of games out for X-Box now so the number of games per console is not a huge issue.

As far as quality, sound, graphics the X-Box is superior. One of the earlier posts is right though, there are not a lot of "little kid" games on X-Box. If you are buying for yourself or kids 10 + go with the X-Box. If you have little tykes, like my daughter is 5 this month, she likes Reader Rabbit type games on the computer any way. Like she could pry the X-Box control out of my son's hands anyway!

One other tip, don't buy a bunch of games, rent them first from Blockbuster. You will soon get a good idea of the ones you want after renting. You can also find games cheap at GameCrazy or Game Trader. Used games are a good way to go.

We have X-box. The best thing as far as I'm concerned is that it's a DVD player. Also you can create your own soundtracks off audio CD's. Maybe PS does that too.

Oh, it also has network capability, they're just starting to exploit that Internet gaming thing. I don't know ... it's my kid's trip, not mine. But I didn't have to buy a DVD player!

My relatives come here for Thanksgiving and the 12-yr old nephew hooked up his x-box to my TV set (an older Zenith 19" color). He sat there playing video games the whole time instead of going outside and hiking in the woods, but that's another story. After everyone left and things returned to normal I find that my TV now receives only 2 stations (standard rabbit ears, no cable here) but before the x-box it got 9 or 10 stations. The missing stations aren't just coming weak or fuzzy - they're totally gone.

Does anyone know if x-box can fry a TV tuner?

As far as I saw, the nephew just unhooked the antenna coax lead and plugged the x-box in there.

I doubt that, have you checked the antenna connection?

On the modern TV, the Xbox plugs in to audio and video jacks (like stereo plugs). But I imagine there are adapters to plug into your uncle's old Zenith (for a price).

just got the ps2 at costco...$280 for the console, 2 controllers, memory card, and 2 games....I love the thing, it loads games pretty fast, is made durable (so if you have kids who break stuff alot I think this could be the system for them), it plays DVD's, and there are hundreds of games varying between $20 and $50....and you can set it up for four players for certain games. I've played the x-box a few times but the biggest factor in getting the ps2 was how many more games there were available.

Yeah, I checked the connection several times and there are no other jacks or plug-ins. The TV is old (about 1988) but has digital tuning - not one of the old rotary mechanical tuners.

I'm the uncle and my sister's kid fried my TV, it seems. :depressed:

For the x-box or the ps2 for that matter, will it play DVD's out of the box or is there something else that you need to buy?

it's an add on for the X-Box and the PS2 also I believe. Here is the kit for the X-box: http://www.xbox.com/system/DVD+Movie+Playback+Kit.htm

It must depend on the box, then - ours played DVDs "right out o' the box." (*Xbox)
