#6 black/golden/brown stone
#12-16 flash back p.t.
#14 sparkle pupa
#12 cased/peeking caddis
#12 or 14 green rock worm
6 mil glo roe and natural beads
lots o' split shot

Always carry a few adult salmon flies as well because you never know. I hardly ever fish dries other than salmon flies and caddis later on in the year so can't help you out there.

this time of year you can stick with two flies:

1. CDC caddis emerger, cream or light olive, size 14, fished in the surface film and swung at the end of the drift

2. CDC Dun, any color, size 16 or 18, dead drift - only necessary when the mayflies are really lining up and fish are on 'em. need lots cuz they drown easily, especially after being gooed up with fish slobber.

those are my picks for the dry fly purist. if you just want to crush the fish, nymphing with a tandem rig of a black kaufmann stone and a pheasant tail is always a slam dunk...close to the bank.

For dries, I always keep some #6 & #8 Improved Sofa Pillows with me in spring. # 4's too, if above Maupin, as the bugs are bigger. Try them even if you don't see fish rising.

I also always have some #12-16 Elk Hair Caddis with me on the D in spring and summer, though I fish them more starting in July.

Don't do anything I do in the second half of June. I can't buy a redside then.

try an ant pattern. Use it as a dropper behind whatever other dry you're throwing. I've had fish refuse several salmonfly imitations during early June, but when I put the ant dropper on, I've had them take it off the surface or several inches below. They'll take it fished deep (as any other nymph) as well.

Wild Chrome and Clarkman -- terrific advice!

For nymphing, I'd carry all the flies listed -- and these as well:
Lightning Bug in size 14 and 16 -- maybe even 12.
Sparkle Caddis Pupa in size 14 to 18.
Copper John in sizes 14 to 20.
Serendipity (green, brown, cream and krystal flash) in sizes 14 down to 18.
Brooks' Stone in sizes 6 and 4.

For dry flies:
Mathews' hackle spinner in sizes 14 through 22 in shades of yellow and olive.
X-caddis in sizes 12 through 18.
Sparkle duns in sizes 12 through 22 in olive, tan, yellow and green.
A dead caddis imitation, such as Lawson's Spent Partridge Caddis.
The dead caddis and spinners are money fished in back eddies at the start and end of the day....
