Default vernonia lake 4/20

fished for about 8 hours in my float tube. Threw panther martins and a kastmaster for about 20 min. Managed only 8 trout so started chasing pan fish with a micro jig and bobber. totals for the day:

blue gill -- 128
black crappie --- 5
perch --- 5
lmb --- 3
trout --- 8

one bass was about 2 pounds and a hand full of the blue gill were really nice, otherwise, most of the fish were dinky. still better than sitting at home though. just my guess, but too me the water felt about 55 in the morning and easily 65 by the evening. i think too many people are keeping too many bass out of there because a couple years ago i used to catch fewer bluegill but they were always slabs. last couple of years i catch hundreds of them but they are almost all tiny. seen lots and lots of 5 pound bass kept last couple of years. too bad.

went back yesterday. the weather was definately cooler and wind really blew most of the day, pretty rough in the foat tube. However, fish were still active. seemed like the bluegill dispersed out some, didn't find any big schools, i really worked the structure hard. fished from 9:00 am till about 6:00 pm.

bluegill -- 100
black crappie --- 35
trout --- 38
perch --- 6
lmb --- 1

If you have a day to kill, it is hard to beat vernonia in your floattube with a micro jig, everything hits a micro jig from steelhead and trout to bass and panfish. all the above fish were caught on a 1/64 oz jig head and 1 inch black jig. tight lines!!

Sounds like you had a great day out there, and like you said any day fishing is better than anything else.

right through the "middle" of the lake there are old pillings sticking up. fish in tight to those. I caught all of the crappie within a couple of feet of structure. caught a couple of them in the back corner (where the water gets pumped in) around the sunken tree. I tried jigging aggressively but the crappie seemed to only bite when i let the jig sit and not move. I was about 3 foot under my bobber. I caught a couple off of red and a couple off of a white jig, but the black was dymomite. hople that helps. I'd say about 10 of them were decent size, the rest were pretty dinky. I also noticed odfw posted a 10 crappie a day limit at the lake, so, if you were planning on keeping any, be aware. I am planning on being out there again tomorrow. I'll be on a green float tube, hooded sweatshirt and wearing my cubs ballcap. if anybody is interested in float tubing with me, I'll be there from about 9 to 430 (i gotta be home to cook some burgers for the big blazer game). tight lines y'all
