Default Herring in Newport

Not sure if this has been posted recently, but does anyone have news of herring in Newport? I usually make a trip for my yearly supply at this time every year and I haven't heard if the run is in. Please help.

the docks and rocks at the south beach marina take a bucket and some kids. Herring will hook kids on fishing for life at least my kids.

Be forewarned, the wine festival is this weekend so it is not the best weekend to get around the boat launch area.

Took my grandsons (11 and 8) out crabbing and jigging herring on Sunday the 21st of Feb. We didn't get any crabs, but did get 71 herring. We fished from about 10 am to around 2 pm. This weekend is not going to be the best, not only because of the wine and seafood fest, but the tides are wrong. The best herring and crabbing are on the incoming tides. Not this coming weekend but next weekend the tides will again be good as the high tide will be in the afternoon. So rest up for a week and then hit it hard.
