Finessing with Flourescent P-line... am I crazy?
So I desperately needed some Flourocarbon and all they had left at Joes was some Flourescent P-Line. I didn't feel like driving so I decided to try it on the upper Willi the next day (last Sunday). I was really surprised and bummed at how visible that line was under the water! I had absolutely no confidence in it and just when my buddies started to poke fun at me... I landed a 2-8 on it dead sticking an unweighted 5" Senko in clear water... along with a few other smaller fish. Though I loved the visibility above the water (can see every movement of the line/fish), I'm not a believer just yet.
What is your experience using this stuff for finesse fishing in clear water? Am I nuts for trying it? If so, at least I got a great deal on it... for a whopping 10% off.

Re: Finessing with Flourescent P-line... am I crazy?
I've used flourescent p-line for years for steelie drift fishing. As spooky as those fish are I seem to have the highest catch rate amongst my friends. I have actually never seen a fish spook from it. I do use a 28" leader of regular floro though so maybe its just too far away??
I know this is not the same type of fishing you are talking about just thought it was food for thought.

I use floresent lines all the time just so I can see it, but I do attach at least a 5' leader of clear florocarbon line with a double uni knot!

Re: Finessing with Flourescent P-line... am I crazy?
I have been using 14 lb bright green fireline (superline) for 3-4 yrs now, and have caught lots with it.. Everybody always gives me crap, but i cant complain. I have caught several 5-7lb LM with it, and big LM are supposed to be more weary. Although i do know that some situations call for clear line.
Most of the water i fish is semi-stained. But typically when I am lucky enough to make it to a freindly competition i generally go all clear line, just in case.....

I personally use braid, but the long, clear leader is the answer.

If its the P-line cx premium than i believe its florocarbon coated, and that helps. I use it for most of my mono line fishing and i love it.

IMHO I don't think there are many lines out there that tie worse knots than Trilene. But, you must have had a different experiece? Are you using a trilene knot?

Trilene flourocarbon is just about impossible to break, its really good stuff and fishes well for flouro. I've fished a bunch of different flouro's and Trilene 100% and Gamma are both the best I've found.

Re: Finessing with Flourescent P-line... am I crazy?
I recently tried out a spool of Berkley Vanish on a new low profile Quantrum reel. Didn't even get it wet before I cut it off the spool and decided to scrap the florocarbon's altogether. How do you get that stuff to lay down on the spool? Casting, make that trying to cast with it was a nightmare.
Got me to thinking, what did we do before we had line we didn't think the fish could see? We still caught fish. Did we catch less? Well I don't know, I caught my share and when I didn't, I doubt I could normally blame it on the line.

Yes K-Stock, you are crazy! Not because of the flo. line but because you did'nt call me to come with you!
Good job. You've come a long way with you fishing skills. I'm impressed.

Thanks for all your feedback guys! I really like the idea of compromising and using clear leader... didn't think of that. I will give that a try on Sunday! Bucketmouth... thanks for your support as always!
