Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
I just saw (local news channel) where average assesed values are running like 20% BELOW market value in the PDX area (due to the past measures holding assesed values down).
Looks like you are getting the shaft. Thanks for covering for the rest of us!
I shouldn't have posted this :depressed: , I haven't got mine yet. I could be in for sticker shock too!

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
Property taxes are out of control everywhere. My taxes in washington have tripled in the last 10 years. My father's property taxes are outrages for a retired person on social security. He now pays in taxes every 5 years what he paid for his house. I can afford to pay the hire taxes because I am still in the work force . But the seniors are getting the short end of it. I just looked at WDFW new license proposals and they are hoping to double the fee for seniors. They dont sell a senior combo license so you have to buy two one for salt and one for fresh. It comes out to 1/3 less than a normal license. Thier seems to be no end in it . We passed laws to lower or eleminate fees and they stick it to you somewhere else.

in the state of Washington, they give a senior discount on their property taxes... you may want to look into this for the seniors in your family...

I am ticked off!!! NFR
So you want to vote for a new bond, levie, or tax do ya? Well, you better take a look at your property tax bill before you do. Just got mine yesterday. They raised the value of my home $10,284. "We don't have enough money" they say. BALONEY!!!!!!!!!!
This raised my taxes by $160 a year. That's one less guided fishing trips. A tank and a half of fuel for the big boat. Two and a half tanks of gas for the truck.
Especially irratating is the fact that I just had the house appraised this summer. The Estimated market value by the acessors office is $11,000 more than the appraisal we had done.
So, before you vote for initiatives consider this. They are going to nail ya one way or another. The initiatives give them permission. Raising your property taxes needs nothing more than to say "hey, your house is worth lots more because we said so!!!"
Hey, I did manage to tie this into fishing thought.

CATCH AND EAT,
Once I appealed to the county board of equalization, and got my assessed value lowered. Take in your appraisal, and you can't go wrong.

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
I am going to. Trouble is that there is not really a comparable home that has sold in our area. We had a tough time even during the appraisal finding caparables.
We do plan on appealing. Not sure how it is going to turn out. I hate this stuff.

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
My tax assessment is lower than the market value of my house ... so I don't want to make any noise.

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
I'm currently shopping for my first house. One thing I'm looking at is the property taxes in different areas. If people are less likely to buy a house if the taxes are high, that in effect reduces the value of the home. I don't like giving my hard earned money to the government to waste, and I don't like the idea of having to "rent" my own property from the government. I'd love to see a sales tax instead of a property tax, but unfortunately, we all know that it wouldn't replace the property tax or lower it. It would just be tacked on extra, no matter what they may say about it. So nix that idea. How about an idiot tax?

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
What you need to do is buy an island and secede from the Union. That way you can govern yourself! Just a thought

Don't forget what they did to the South.
You would be better off buying a island that is not part of the US and then declare war. Just think about all of that foreign aid $$$$$$.

Re: I am ticked off!!! NFR
Hey Bernie!
You must be getting ripped off How on earth can they DOUBLE the value the appraiser said your house is worth!???
happybrew, if you are looking at the tax rates it is one thing, the taxes themselves are a direct reflection of the value of the property. What you may find though is that the areas with the highest tax rates are the ones that are socio-economically the most desirable. Tax rates are higher when special levies get passed fror things like (extra) road improvements, fire, police library levies and especially schools...
I appreciate anyone struggling to pay property tax. Try living on riverfront in West Linn! This time of year I feel like I should walk alone with a tee that says
