Re: Taxes in Oregon
I realize that other non fishing related things get posted to the ifish community but does this belong here? It should probably go into the Life in General board found here on ifish. Perhaps I am wrong.
I am fairly sure that you can contact either the state lottery or the state agency responsible for the management and budget of the state and ask for a breakdown. It is a public agency after all and has to keep records of every dime taken and spent. Have you actually asked the question of any state officials or are you just spouting what you think might be true? Perhaps before you post something like this you might want to try to do a little investigation. I am not saying what you are posting here is not true it is just difficult to really discuss the thing without having any facts for a foundation.
Of course if you say that they would just lie to us about how much they get and give then you are going into the conspiracy theory realm. Then it turns into a discussion where nothing can be proven or disproven and the whole thing goes nowhere. In this case only hearsay, anecdotes, and half truths dominate the conversation and I don't have time for discussing that.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
Sandy Steel,
That post is right in line with all of the other posts on hatchery funding etc, etc. It has definitely sparked my curiosity and inspired me to find out the answers to some of those questions.
I am getting sick and tired of the liberal tax and spend government here in Oregon trying to screw me out of my hard earned dollars. As corrupt as this States government is I would have no problem believing that a select few are lining their pockets with lottery funds.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
SandySteel, I agree with you. I think this post does not belong on this forum.
Should it not have had NFR in the subject box?
The best way to vote on the lottery issue is with your wallet. Don't by a ticket.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
What they should do is create a website where they could put up a web page that addresses that issue, so that if people have questions they can get answers.
At least, that's how they SHOULD do it.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
I suppose this is remotely fishing related, but not closely enough for the main board ... it's going where it belongs: Life in General.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
quite frankly, I don't care where you put it... if you like paying taxes, KEEP PAYING THEM! that's why they are so high, because no one has the &*%%s to ask questions... not buying a ticket has nothing to do with the squandering away of monies that the government is supposed to be using to support things such as fisheries, parks, etc..... turn your heads the other way, go ahead, eventually they will take everything and you won't be able to do a damn thing about it!

Re: Taxes in Oregon
I do not want to argue politics and am sorry I posted to this subject.
When I started the reply I was only going to worry about this being on the main forum where I go to get my fishing fix.
I am pretty much asleep when it comes to funding projects unless it is a new rod or reel.
Fishing is fun,,,,, politics is not.

Re: Taxes in Oregon
I'm sure that the folks at iFish would not back your proposal of not paying taxes if you don't like them.
Definitely, ask questions of your representatives and your future representatives. Ask lots of questions. Just be prepared for the answers.
