At least they're being bipartisan about it. I predict all the pols [img]graemlins/berry.gif[/img] will say the same thing "I'm not paying because nobody ever paid before and I wouldn't want to set a precedent, blah, blah, blah".

good.i think they should all get a bill.

funny this pops up know that there is a republican pres. knowing that any current president will cost much much more.a couple years ago when her buddies "clinton and gore" came to town many times and the republican were complaining about it she did nothing.but now that this could cost the republican 10 times or more of that of the democrats it is all the sudden a big deal to her.

i cant wait to see what she-they do next time a democratic president comes to town.

This letter-to-the-editor is in The Oregonian today:

Columnist Steve Duin thinks Sen. Gordon Smith should pay the cost of extra police protection provided during President Bush's recent visit. I hadn't understood that Portland police charge for keeping order for visitors to the city.

My wife and I will be visiting Portland soon and would like to know how much we will owe. We won't need as much police service as Bush, but we will have a vehicle, and this will require a small amount of traffic control. We would like Portland police to keep an eye out for our personal safety.

If Duin would print a schedule of police charges in his coulumn, we will have our check ready. We will be staying at a hotel in Portland and will be flushing several times. If there is an extra charge for that city service also, please let us know.

Doesn't surprise me that Bob would write something like that.....typical ultr-conservative South Coast Republican (which, I admit, I used to be). Known the Van Leer's all my life.

Hey Bob, if you're coming up here for political fundraiser activities, that require extra security, that don't benefit the general public or the local economy ONE IOTA....well, don't worry, we'll be sure to charge you!!
