Default Boat Down Daybreak Park

KGW had a breaking news with a camera shot of a boat turned over at Daybreak Park in Battleground. They say a possible, but no further info. The bottom was white and appeared to be a drift boat.

God go with them.

Just grabbed this off the KGW site:

Elderly man drowns at Battle Ground park
03:31 PM PST on Wednesday, February 25, 2004

By TERESA BELL and ANTONIA GIEDWOYN, kgw.com Staff

BATTLE GROUND, Wash. -- A 76-year-old man died Wednesday, after his boat capsized near Daybreak Park in the Battle Ground, Wash., area.

Rescuers try to revive the man who collapsed after his boat capsized in the Lewis River. (Sky 8 photo)
Witnesses said three people fell out of the boat when it overturned about a half mile west of the park shortly before noon. They said the trio swam to shore, but the victim collapsed after they got out of the water.

"CPR was started on one subject at the scene," said commander Tony Barnes, with the Clark County Sheriff's Office. "As rescuers arrived they found a 76-year-old male unconscious and initiated advanced life support measures."

But Barnes said paramedics could not revive the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

The trio had been working to map the river for Fish First, a local conservation group. Witnesses said the boat overturned after entering a bend in the river.

A second boat full of people was also involved in the mapping project. That boat safely reached shore without flipping.

Daybreak Park is located on the East Fork of the Lewis River, just west of Battle Ground.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all.

Bob

I think they call that area the "Widowmaker" if I'm not mistaken.

My prayers go out to the families.

I checked with a friend who lives on the EFL. The boat went down just below the Arab hole at the 90 degree right turn. It was a Fish First river mapping group. Too bad.

Yes a sad site..I had just watched the guys go down towards the Arab hole moments before. They were having what looked to be a great day on the water and flow looked to be fairly low.

15 mins later..2 fire engines, 1 ambulance, 2 sherriffs, 2 fire marshals, and 2 rescue utility vehicles searched fevereshly for the over turned boat starting at daybreak park and ended up being located behind Storedahls pit where the man had passed away.
When we went to check out what was happening with news chopper 8 overhead the response team said that all made it to shore but one had passed away of an apparent heart attack. :depressed: :depressed: :depressed:
