Abby's day with me and Marty
I had the pleasure of taking my 10 year old daughter Abby down the river with Marty Peterson on Monday. We could not have picked a better day or a better person to take a 10 year old fishing. A little background here. Abby has been fishing with me since she was 3, got her first springer when she was 5 and her first steelhead 3 years ago.
My approach with her has been to plug fish as its easy for kids to do and be successful at. She always likes to pull over and cast but had not caught anything by that method until now.
As you know, Monday was gorgeous and the river was a little on the low side. We spent the entire day drifting eggs and found fish all through the river. Abby managed to hook 4 all on her own with a couple of hand offs from me.
There were several highlights to the day but big fish honors were a 39 1/2 inch buck that still had sea lice. Now, for the naysayers, that fish spent no more than 20 seconds out of the water for the photo op and swam off very strongly. In fact you'll notice that Marty had a hold of the tail during the pic so we could get it back quickly.
All in all a great day with my daughter and a great guide to help us spend a special day. Thanks again Marty.

Re: Abby's day with me and Marty
I think this was her first of the day:
Here's one of Abby and her proud daddy:
Here she is in action:
And the end result, 39 1/2" X 19 1/2" brute:
Ready to revive and complete his mission:
I'll tell you what, this 10 yr old girl is a joy to be around, (her dad's not too bad either) .
I think she'll probably not forget that day, nor will I. It brings joy to my heart and one of the greatest rewards of my job to get the young people into beautiful fish and get them hooked on fishing. Rich, the only problem here is... We may have created a monster! The girl is a fishing machine!
She did absolutely awesome on the casting and put it where it needed to be. She probably did better than a lot of grown men that fish with me!!!
I hope to see you both again!

Re: Abby's day with me and Marty
Sweet story nothing like taking kids fishing. For some reason Marty I don't see the pictures you post. For me there is no pictures anyone else having this problem? I noticed in your post for Timber the other day and again today. Marty did you switch to side drifting too?

Re: Abby's day with me and Marty
Steve,
Yep, still have an A's hat though the one I used to wear is long retired due to excessive stink.
Marty, thanks for getting those pics up and you can count on seeing us again. She's ramped and ready to go this weekend, a monster I believe I have.

Re: Abby's day with me and Marty
Sounds like my daughter, 27 years ago. She still loves it. Limited out on Fall CH, age 7, when the limit was still 3. I sure miss those days.

Re: Abby's day with me and Marty
I showed this thread to Abby and she was tickled. She especially liked Time off's comment about giving lessons.
I was teasing her on Monday because the hat she's wearing in those pics is from her first year of T-ball and it was small for her. Can you imagine how its going to fit now?
