Default Anybody hit the Deschutes lately?

This will be my first Deschutes trip of the year. I am going to fish Deschutes Park, right where it meets the Columbia. I caught some beautiful redsides there last year on Elk Hair Caddis, BH Pheasant Tails, and Royal Trudes. I have never fished this early in the year there, so I am not quite sure what the story is. I have heard there are some BWOs and maybe caddis. Any advice?

Default Delayed Deschutes Report

I fished Deschutes park on Sunday 3/14 PM and Monday 3/15 AM and got skunked. I was busy last week so the report is somewhat delayed. There were BWOs on the water in the afternoon, but I did not see a single fish rise. I tried everything from different dries to big stonefly nymphs to little beadheads..Nothing.

Still had a blast.

I fished it the 13th and caught a half dozen fat redbands and at least that many white fish. Mostly fished a "truck and trailer" rig of big stone and a #22 foam wing emerger as the dropper. Almost all of the trout were caught on the a Kaufmann's golden stone. There was a light BWO hatch and a few March browns and various caddis blowing about but surface activity was very sparse. I managed one on top.
This was in the Maupin area.

Hope this helps.
