Pro Troll Stingfish
Anyone try these, yet? The one's I'm lokking at are called a Stingfish.
I had to get one when I saw them recently.
(Edit: Ifish does not allow product links unless they are an ifish sponsor. Please do a google search for more info. The EChip in the head of the "StingFish" loads the water around the lure with electric pulses that salmon cannot ignore.)

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
Don't know yet. I plan to get some Apexs with the echip for kokanee. Will find out later if they work. The roto bait holder have come with the echip for a few years.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
From the Pro-Troll ad copy:
"The rapid shaking of the EChip in the head of the StingFish loads the water around the lure with electric pulses that salmon cannot ignore. The result is more strikes."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Oregon Revised Statutes:
ORS 498.208 Use of electricity or foreign substances to take game fish prohibited.
(1) Except as the State Fish and Wildlife Commission by rule may provide otherwise, no person shall:
(a) Use in any body of water any electric current that may attract, frighten, retard, stun, kill or obstruct the movement of any game fish.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
I got some second hand feedback from very good herring fisherman that caught with the e-chip, and without. They didn't really see a diff.

Everyone loves a gimmick. I'm sure they'll sell a few.
I prefer my fish without electrocution. I think they taste better.
Okey Dokey?

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
I bought 1 at Bobs the other day.Figured why not. They looked almost identical to a kwikie other than the metal thingy on type by the eyelet. The only thing is it might make the action a little different.Good or bad who knows?Foe the same price as a regular kwikie why not give it a try.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
Ran one on and off all through the tides last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Not a single takedown, but the other two rods in the boat didn't see any action either. We'll see how they work when we get a few more fish in the river. I did have a takedown last thursday, but was running a Coyote at the time and didn't get a solid hookup.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
UG,
My new electric downrigger brags that it has "Positive Ion" which they describe as sending out an attracting current from the cable. I think that is the same principle as the black boxes people use with their downriggers.
Are black boxes illegal in Oregon? If so, I fear my new downrigger is too.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
I asked that very question to OSP - and yes "black boxes" are illegal in oregon, but not a high enforcement priority. Just dont PO the officer when you have a black box on your boat. Its kinda like having a burnt out tail light and a crappy attitude, you are gonna get a ticket.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
Now I feel better. For a while, I thought I was going to have to wear a black mask.
Remember, if E-chips are outlawed, only outlaws will have e-chips.
Experimentation will commence about 18 hours after I see some fish pix or some fish counts over the dam. Grossly distorted reports to follow.

Re: Pro Troll Stingfish
FYI - almost all metal gives off an electric current in water, especially salt--no gizmo required.
