Re: Estimated weight formula for native steelhead
The formula I use is the Skeena formulw which is length times girth squared, divided by 775. (L x (G^2)) divided by 775.
There is a formula that came from the Dean river studies which is length times girth squared multiplied by .00133. That formula comes out a little big, but the Dean fish are larger than most.
I have alot of data on length and girth to weight ratios and the skeena formula seems to be the most accurate. I have charted out alot of th data from known fish measurements and weights, such as state records. I did this so I could know exactly how big a fish is when I measure and release it. I recently released a native that was 39 x 20 and new it was just over 20 pounds as soon as I took the measurements. If you have any questions beyond the formula I can help.
