Sure, it'd be great to see some pics.

For displaying pics here there is two techniques:

1. Is to follow the upload instructions, and you actually upload your pic to the Ifish server. It's rather tedious if you're doing more than one pic.

2. Second option is to put you pics on another website, PhotoBucket is a free one. When you post, and add-an-image, you just put in the URL for the image you want to use. Plus the images are always available to you. Those you put on the Ifish server are not.

Here's the link to photobucket, and it shows one of my fish pic albums.

Nymph Dragger,

I'm interested in seeing photos. I like to see other people's exotic fishing adventures, for my own fantasy fishing. The Amazon sounds especially exotic. The IFish photo posting isn't too bad once you get a rhythm going.

GaryK,

I'm looking forward to your photos from Costa Rica.

Default Amazon Basin Fly Fishing

At least one member wants me to post about Amazon fly fishing.

I can do pictures if I can figure out how to insert them here.

If anybody's interested I'll be glad to post. I can talk about tackle, flies, species, weather, or whatever anyone is interested in.

I fished the Xingu River about 450 clicks west of Belem, Brazil. I was 70 clicks SE of Altamira at Belo Monte Hill. I caught about fifty fish in six days(much less than the rest of my party because I insisted on using my fly rod most of the time).

I caught Tucanare'(Peacock Bass), Piranha, Bicuda, and Palomino Bass mostly. We also caught Jacanare(Amazon Alligators), Sting Rays, and huge Catfish.

The weather was punishing. In mid-winter it was 100 degrees and 100 % humidity. The jungle was amazingingly beautiful, and the water clear and cool. On every beach there were panther tracks, and/or signs of a struggle where panthers took some food.

We saw electric eels, Anacondas, and Amazon Ducks that swim underwater hours at a time.

The Piranha are hell on flies. They chewed up fifty bucks worth of streamer salt water flies.

Fly fishing is hard. Every fish worth catching is a pursuer. You have to strip like a mad man. The biggest bass we caught were on live bait with spinning rods.

It was like going to a different planet. Tarantulas the size of dinner plates on the floor next to you at the dinner table.

If you go, use 2x trout leaders and four inch wire bite guards(everything has teeth). I used my 9 wt. Steelhead rod, but wished I'd taken my 6 wt. trout rod. The best flies were 4" to 6" salt water streamers in red and blue.

Piranha are fun to catch, but even more fun to get off the hook, and pretty tasty, I might add.

The best thing I ate in the jungle was Pacu(Tapir, read large rat) the cook made it good.

Mo' later.

TC, I hope to get some pics to post. Our fishing starts on March 20th; it'll be the first week of April before we're back and I - again hopefully - have some pics to put up.

Nymph Dragger - can't wait to see your pics! Hope you got one of the tarantula.

That would be a fishing trip of a lifetime. Sounds really great, fly fishing or otherwise. Would love to go on such a trip. Cost out of my league for now. see any 15 lb peacocks? Follow the picture posting instructions and show those fish!

OK, technically I didn't take these on a fly. But I do fly fish a lot. Also, since no one else posted any pics of fish from the Amazon I decided to post these. Both of these were caught in a tributary of the Amazon near Iquitos, Peru in 1997. Gear was a 4 foot tree branch, 20 lb test, #4 hook, raw chicken.

White Piranha

Red Piranha
