Default For those around Baker City, OR

Went out to Highway 203 pond on Friday and landed a pretty nice 11" rainbow. Must have been a holdover from last year as when I was leaving, the ODFW truck pulled up and began their first stocking of the pond. This means that North Powder #1 and Haines Pond have also been stocked, since they do all 3 the same day usually. So there are several thousand stocked keepers ready for us in the Baker City area now.

One other thing, the last time I was out to North Powder, the road was still covered with water right by the pond. A 4-wheeler with some clearance could make the trip in pretty easily, but I'm afraid my little Kia Sportage would float out into the pond. I'm sure someone will get in there with a backhoe and clean out the drainage now that it's stocked though.

Haven't been to Phillips or heard much yet on the fishing there. I did hear that the perch removal had hit some bad weather and they weren't getting as many out as they had liked, but that's been several weeks back.

I was out at 203 again for a while today and the truck came and stocked some fish, probably some bigger ones as free fishing weekend is approaching (I believe). Went out to North Powder and the road isn't totally underwater by the pond now. A couple of big puddles, but most vehicles should make it through with no problem. I didn't try it with my little Pontiac as it is rather low to the ground and I'm not sure if there have been any new ruts dug into the road by the 4-wheelers going through. Next week I'll be out there on Wednesday though.
