Default scud questions

Hi everybody.....I'm looking for your input on scuds; what colors do you like (and why), what sizes, patterns (bead head vs non), etc. I plan on using them in a lake this summer. Thanks in advance

Scuds work period all colors and sizes, these are a must have in your box in a multitude of size/color. I don't leave home with out them. And orange is my fav color.

on the crooked, I like three colors. Orange, orange, and of course orange. In lakes known to have populations, I'd say olive is the "go to"
color.

Boomer:
Tie up(or buy) some scuds in a variety of colors and sizes. Buy an aquarium fishnet at a store that sells aquarium fish/supplies and attach a small diameter cord to the net handle. On the lake, lower the net to the bottom and drag it through a weedy area. Pull it up and exam the contents of the net for scuds(as well as other fishfood types of aquatic life). That will give you a good idea of what color and size scud to use. I have found tan, gray, olive, orange, brown, and opalescent colors to be effective in lakes.

Try a Stillwater nymph in olive, tied with an orange dyed grizzly hackle. Tie 'em in smaller sizes to match the naturals in whatever water you're fishing. Overall, its really the size and presentation (and not so much the color)that matter. Short slow pulls seem to do the trick usually.
