Default Flies for Lakebound Steelhead

Have a question for the group: Has anyone found a particular fly or type of fly effective in catching lakebound steelies on the coast or elsewhere? I tried some attractor patterns about a week ago, bu no go! Frustrated!
Many thanks

I think any attractor fly will work. The most important thing is to find a fish willing to bite it. I've fished a lake here in SW WA for lakebound steelies and found sight fishing for them to be the most productive. I'll make a few cast to the fish. If it shows no interest in the fly I move on. If it shows interest I will work the fly repeatedly in front of the fish.
Most of the fish hit my fly because it ticked them off, rather than thinking it was some sort of food item.

I have had luck using a large woolybugger (longer than usual tail). I was casting towards shore, almost landing on shore and stripping back rather quickly. Somewhat similar to Hosmer. They don't fit too well in a trout net however. What a blast though.

I would think something big, with some action to it (like maribou). Stripping it in fast would probably be a good idea too.

Caught one late in the spring a couple of years ago on a hairs ear while fishing for stockers.
