Default Chevy Trailer Light Harness Wiring ?

Hoping there's a Chevy mechanic/aficionado out in Ifish land..here goes.
In what may be a huge mistake, I'm getting my 2005 Impala ready to tow a drift boat. Trying to install the light harness..
Drilled a ground screw in, tightened it up. COnnected yellow to yellow for Left turn Signal<LTS> Brown to brown for Tail/running lights as per instructions.
However, the instructions say green to green for RTS, but there is no green only black..I connected it to the black as it was the only wire left and I got no love from the built in tester lights on the uhaul harness.
I did NOT plug it into a trailer<dont have one>, but I was told the lights should come on with a turn signal.
I was hoping someone with more electrical experience or experience with the self testing harnesses< do they only light up with a trailer plugged in?> could shed some light on this...Im just happy I didn't fry the car or myself.
Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

So does the UHaul plug have green? I would assume UHaul only has something like this with green, yellow, brown, and white:

So the black wire that is left is coming off the car somewhere?

Anyway, the test lights should come on for turn signals and running/stop lights. Doesn't have to be hooked up to anything else. If you've got no lights on the tester, then the ground is likely bad. If you got all lights but the RTS, then something is foul with that black wire.

You could get a couple dollar test light at the auto store to do more testing. You can ground the tester, then insert the pointy end into the trailer connector and check for 12V. If you check the green, yellow, and brown and the light comes on, then put the ground of the test light in the white hole and check again. If you see nothing, then the ground is bad.

Hey Orca,
Thanks for the response..I have been to Walmart and purchased a tester, so I will try to diagnose it in the morning.
I'll let you know what happens.
