Default Question: Second rod licenses

Should the State of Oregon issue licenses for second rods if funds raised were dedicated to game fish programs?

Why or why not?

Should it be only for a different species i.e. salmon and sturgeon?

How do you believe that this would hurt or help our fisheries?

If all of the money was used for fisheries I don't see where it could possibly hurt. Even with a second rod for the same species you are still only allowed one daily bag limit.

I think it would be great to be able to fish for salmon on one rod and sturgeon or shad on another rod.

This however is just my .02 worth.

I agree with STZ11 . At the last board meeting of the OREGON BASS AND PANFISH CLUB we voted to endorse it .It took our PRESEDENT to cast the tie breaker .But it did pass . I think that it would be great to fish for differt fish at the same time .

I agree all in all you still only get to take home the same amount of fish (one days limit) be it caught on one rod or two rp

My only thought on it is that alot of bank access is limited and if you let anglers use two rods per person alot of people wouldn't be able to fish the area.

Only two rods?? I thought that was what my kids were for? Just kidding. I think that would be great if the money went to the fisheries. As to Stan Zak's question about bank access, the only way you could fish two rods is if you were plunking or sturgeon fishing from the bank(?) and since I've never had that experience I don't know how crowded it would get. Maybe a "boat only" rule?

I think it would be a good idea for boat and squaw fishing.I will try to make it up there for the meeting.

I'd use two rods for kokanee fishing but I'll be dammed if I'll limit myself to only two rods for albacore.

I think its ok for the boat guys to use 2 rods, but what about the guys on the banks? With limited space at the good spots, there could be trouble. If I walked into a plunking spot and saw 2 guys with 4 rods out right in the prime area, would they move 1?

I'd got for a second rod opportunity I'm sure ODFW would not mind getting more $$$ They are with the shellfish license

But there better be good usage of the $$$

Good point about the bank access. If boats were allowed 2, then that would encourage the purchase of boats, boosting the economy, providing more funds for fish protection/production, AND faster limits!

Hi Hookem, If they didn't move their rod probably not an enjoyable location to be. I found boaters can be that way too when anchoring. The advantage of boating, plenty of river. The disadvantage to banking, not so much bank :depressed:

I have also felt that being able to fish two rods was a worthwhile concept. I have also talked with a few OSP Game Officers. They were against it. But, I think it is an education & training issue. From a law enforcement standpoint, they were concerned as to how to tell who has that license or not. I say...same way you do now. Only your actual license is stamped with the endorsement, (just like upland bird), and the it is in two colors. I have often been asked to show mine from afar, held it up and away they went. That would make that kind of spot check simple. But I do believe some of the funds should go to OSp for enforcement.

BC allows it for salmon. Here you can keep fishing for sturgeon after you tag your keeper.Or if you are going to keep "trolling" for "steelhead" in a three fish limit area.?
And I believe ODF&W visited this topic a year or two ago. Although I never heard the results.
Possibly due to the fact that our runs are always in question and how would it effect the season quotas/closures with multiple rods per angler.
Geeze, I run double herring rigs on one rod sometimes, imagine running multiple rods with a double spreader set up. It would look like the mess those folks down South use for stripers, the ole puppet shad rig.
But a whole school of herringus following your boat around could be cool too.
Not sure how to vote on this one.?

How are the guys on the bank going to use two rods, I have trouble keeping one in the water, either some dumb tree gets in the way or some rock decides it needs my set up more than me, In the boat I have a hard time keeping one ready with sandwhichs, beer, chips and bait what are they thinking two rods, how could this possibly work............or could it.........
