Talking Trophy Fish Boxes

I have a 1998 21' Trophy. Anybody out there plumb their fish boxes down and out the transom? More importantly has anybody sank their boat doing so?

I am considering doing so to make clean-up more efficient among other reasons.

They make a thru hull fitting that has a ball that floats up and seals the water from entering but not exiting ...
That would work if the position was slightly above the water line at rest and underway , I think ...

The ONLY way I would consider this, is with a plug in the drain line, removed only when the boat is on the trailer. Is this what you had in mind?

I have a Trophy as well. I've found that a "Thirst Buoy" manual pump works better than anything for getting the water out of the boxes. I use the electric macerator pumps for the "nasty" work, then the manual for "clean" water.

Also, when I clean-up my boat on the trailer, I drive the rear-end of my truck onto car ramps, lifting the tongue. This makes all the water run to the back faster. Works great!

I have a Trophy with twin fish boxes. I removed the factory drain system (Mickey Mouse) and plumbed a Maceration pump to each box and added a double pole double throw intermittent on switch to the dash. I can wash down the boxes hit the switch and everything goes over the side. It works great and nothing so far has plugged the pump. This also allows me to add ice and maintain cold water for quick fish cool down. I personally would avoid a stern drain, but each to their own.

Soulakala's boat may be older than mine, or the previous owner already did the conversion on my boat, because I have a macerator pump on each of my boxes. The drain/pump intake is screened, so I've had no problem with clogs.

I have the same problem with the fish boxes on my trophy. I have been trying to come up with better way of getting all the water out. They are a real pain.
