Default Greased line fly fishing animation

Giz found this animation on the net somewhere and it shows your basic and simplified greased line technique. The water current direction would of course be running from top to bottom on this illustration.

I've always thought a greased line was a dead drift. The cartoon looks like my swing. Can somebody expand on this a little?

Hi Kevin, the greased line is a way to present a fly broadside to your target (mostly used in sight fishing). Also you can use the greased line to dead drift the fly through the up-river part of the drift and swing it out at the end.

I've got that part mastered.
What I'm usually missing is the strike.
