Default Flipping Reel Feature

I was looking at some baitcasters on Ebay. Some Diawa's have a switch for flipping. Does anyone know what it is for and how does it work?

Thanks

Flipping reels are one of those bass things, so far. When the feature is engaged, the spool re-engages as soon as you lift your thumb off the bar. I tried it for a while on a reel I used to have. It was difficult for me to cast. Bass flipping and pitching is usually a short thing, fifteen feet at the most. It's not really built for "our" type of fishing. Then again, maybe it just needs more time. When the casts went well, you were fishing the second your rig hit the water. However, a couple of those gear clashes are enough to make you turn the "feature" off again.

A flippin switch allows line to only come out when there is pressure on the thumb bar from what I understand and makes the release not engage and hold, just work under pressure. Nice for long lining drift fishing.

I am not a fan of Daiwa reels, but I will never again own a baitcaster for steelhead fishing without the flippin' switch.

I don't know if there ara any reels with the flippin' switch big enough to backbounce with, but backbouncing (and extending a drift while drift fishing) is the perfect application for the flippin' switch. You can let line out and if you get a bite set the hook, with the gears engaged, NOW.

Quantum currently makes two flippin' enabled models (available in right or left hand retrieve) called "Accurist". Shimano has something very similar (also right or left) in the "Castaic". Cabelas offers Flippin' in their "Prodigy" reels.

Thanks C-Lice,

I have seen the Cabela's brand and will take a look at the other brands. Some of the companies should be at the Evergreen Sportsman's show.

Thanks for the Clue-ing in" on this. I'll have my Abu XLT set up with a spoon for next time so that i can extend my drifts or keep my spoon deep in faster water. The knashing of gears does get your attention right away, ussually goes away after the forst cast once I'm reminded.....

One feature I wish I had on several more reels is the clicker switch. It enables the drag to be loosened somewhat and everyone on the river can hear the screaming reel as the fish peels line.
Good for nap time also, no need for a bell.
