If you're talkin dry flies, my fav is a sofa pillow. Stimulator's are good too. For nymphs, a Kauffman's stone or rubberlegs is hard to beat.

Not sure what you mean by "good fly to swing"? I'm not aware of any salmonfly strategies that involve a swung fly? (upstream dry fly or nymphing for me)

Yeah, no swing pattern (and wasn't aware of any). My favs are the Norm Woods and the MacSalmon.

Size 8, bullet head, burnt orange macrame extended body, brown hackle over where you tie down the body. this size is more productive for me around Maupin than it is up by WS. Tie them ugly. And under tension they will sink, and i have taken fish late in the hatch that way.

Kind of a parachute madam x/stimulator, but I use razor foam for the body and a 1/8" foam parachute post...floats like a cork, rides up right (versus the stimmie, which has a tendency to roll on its side)...

Clark's Stone and the Norm Wood Special are really the best of the best.

Consider that there are two families of 'salmon flies'. The smaller Golden Stones, and the larger true 'salmon fly', the Pteranarcys (sp?)

You vary the size and/or color of the above patterns to match.

From Metolius Red Bands, to coastal Sea Run Cutts, to Rogue Holy Water rainbows, to McKenzie Cuttbows, and up through Alberta and BC cutthroats - if I only had a single dry fly to choose from, it would likely be Clark's Stone.
