Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
Great meeting FallRiverGuy and TillamookChinook. Sorry I didn't get to meet Airborne, SlaminKokes and ReelBeauty... hopefully next time. Riverkeeper and I arrived Friday night in time to set up camp before the rains came. The weather cooperated Saturday but the fish did not. Windy at times and no hatches to speak of, though we still managed some fish. FallRiverGuy, Riverkeeper and I did a little trout dance around the campfire Sat. night in hopes of improving our odds on the Metolius Sunday (see GreenButt's post). Duh, turns out we did a snow dance instead. 3 inches of freshies overnight and a steady fall on Sunday. I had a great time and can't wait to meet more ifishers at the March Rendevouz.
I think a few awards are in order:
The Julia Childs Award goes to FallRiverGuy for his savory Whitefish recipe. Goes great with Bushmills.
The Ethel Merman Award goes to TillamookChinook for his singing reel. I wish I had a recording of that to listen to right now. TC also had us singing the praises of his Pale Ale.
And last, but not least...
The Innovative Flycaster Award goes to GreenButtSkunk for his ingenious method of presenting a wetfly. Once more, could you please explain how you make the cast underwater?

I have some photos that will tell the real story, and I know Jim does too. Will post later tonight.

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
hey lilnorthfork,
I was just trying to hug that bull trout. They're ugly, but they need love too, just like you do.
Darian, thanks for the swig of bushmills, I'm sure it was the contributing factor in my face plant into the 46 degree metolius river while the snow came down. I'm sure if I had started to float down river fallriverguy would have laid out a cast just to hook up with me. He claims his reel has a drag that can stop a freight train.
Too bad Julia Childs could not have joined us in the flesh, that gal can really put one back!

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
Here's some pics from the Crooked portion of the trip, see Tillamook Chinook's post for the Metolius madness. You guys are a bunch of nuts
Here is FallRiverGuy's keeper, this was the biggest fish landed. He came back to camp for dinner Is that CHROME or what?
Here FRG is cooking up the prize, while Lilnorthfork does a preliminary Troutdance for the next day. Jon, you missed your calling as a choreographer.

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
Sounds like you guys had fun, and that's what it's all about.
Us old guys can't handle the cold so hopefully it will be nicer for the spring outing.

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
It was a great weekend. Very nice to meet for the first time lilnorthfork, Riverkeeper, GBS and Tillamookchinook. Good to talk with you again Slamminkokes. Hope you found some joy downstream. Not the best weekend to get excited about flyfishing Reelbeauty, but once you get your first fish on a fly it will be addictive. Eventhough I did not get to meet you personally Airborne, I watched you put the hurt on a few fish.
Additional awards to go lilnorthfork for the Rich Little award for the best impersonation of how to wet fly fish with a hand line.
The Einstein award to Riverkeeper for making possible the Julia Childs award.
Tillamookchinook has a brew that is good for whatever ales you. If he offers to bring a six pack in exchange for a boat ride I'd take it in a second.
Is that what that was...a snow dance disguised as a trout dance. Funny, the whole time I thought we were just trying to keep the smoke out of our eyes as we all stood close the fire in our raingear?
I too look forward to the March Rendezvous

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
I had just asked lilnorthfork how many servings of white fish he wanted. As you can see by the picture he wanted two. Shortly after the white fish and Bushmills feast, he mentioned something about coming back to the Crooked river for a meat run.

Re: Crooked R. Rendevouz Post-Mortem
Whitefish, the other, other, other, other white meat. I doubt even the Donner party would have
eaten one of those fish, you crazy boys must have been mighty hungry!
