Pike on a fly
I just got back from michigan and I caught about 20 northerns on my #8 with with streamers, They are now my faverite fish to catch on a fly rod WOW they fight They are like steelhead on crack. the biggest was about 20lbs and the smallest was about 15 " and everywhere in between If you have never tried this you need to. Its got me thinking about relocating back to Michigan, I also got 3 steelhead on the muskegon river. They were very hot fish to.

Re: Pike on a fly
I've done it in canada and minnesota and it is a blast. a big fast strip and they crush it, then make a screaming run. I was lucky to even sight fish for them on one occasion.Yes, anyone who has'nt done it should try it, it's so much fun.
Sounded like you got into some really nice fish.

Re: Pike on a fly
When I was in Alaska, I was living at an outcamp for about 6 weeks. There were about 3 or 4 days when the plane didn't show up and I didn't have to guide. The lake I was camped on had some monster northerns in it. I was by myself, in Alaska, and on a lake filled with big northerns. Life was good! I had to tie up some really ugly flies since my material stock was slim pickens. I even tore apart some trout flies to make something that the pike would take. Anything that was long and created a wake caught fish. Lost a good pair of pliers trying to get a fly out. The big guys have big teeth!

Re: Pike on a fly
If anyone is interested North Idaho is a lot closer than Michigan, and several of the lakes around CDA have monster Pike as well as Tiger Muskie. I get up there to visit my family in Sandpoint often and always welcome a a friend or two to join me, If anyone wants to plan a great fishing trip I am open, we would fish for big trout/bass/you name it it's all there. BUT BRING A FLY-ROD.....

Re: Pike on a fly
i live in minnesota the greater part of the year and fish pike pretty often.
only last year did i realize that a spey rod has more uses than just chuckin' steelhead flies.
you should see the way it'll pick up and put down 60' of line and a 6" bunny leech!
just a thought for all you who aren't in the hard water parts of the country...

Re: Pike on a fly
Hey Airborne,
I have been wondering about fishing around there (especially Pike). My Dad now lives in Bonners Ferry Idaho. 28 miles north of Sandpoint. I go up to see him about once a year but maybe will have to make it more often if I( can find some good fishing around there.

Re: Pike on a fly
Tanner,
you have to get up there more than once a year, the fishing is great for just about all fish yes even BASS. I know the area pretty good and your welcome to tag along anytime I go, even had a offer over the holidays to go in partners with a guy and start a Fly shop and guide service based out of Sandpoint, which is what I want to do but I have too many years invested in the ARMY to get out right now. The wife even said if I wanted to do it just say the word and the house here is on the market.
