I have one in a DT 5 F. It is a pretty good line, but I can't tell much of a difference from the 444's.

EDIT: I meant DT 4 F

I have a 555 and a 444, To be honest I like the 444 better but they are almost the same.

I have a 555 in the clear finish. It is too stiff, and even after I stretch it, it still coils. It casts great, and works well when it's hot out. I'm going to have to get another 444 lazerline to use in the winter. I still like it though.

I had a #5 WF 555 Ghost Tip, thinking it would be a long and stealthy caster. NOT! Not only didn't it cast any further than my 444, it coiled exessively even in mildly cool weather. But what I didn't like the most was that on long casts, the line screached through the guides. I almost had to wear earplugs. And no, it wasn't because the rod was in anyway cheap. It's a Sage XP.

I traded the Ghost tip in on a regular 555 which worked much better, but no better than my 444. The 444 is cheaper and works just as well, so I am back to buying the 444s.

i have a WF6F 555 for my SCIV 9'9" 6wt. the combo of the long rod and the slick line lets me throw the whole thing if need be. but you have to make sure to stretch it out well beforehand. and they're pretty coily when it's cold regardless of what you do.

Okay, I'll admit that I'm not hung up on having the very latest in gear ("the tackle doesn't make the fisherman,") and, in fact, I've been accused (by myself) of being a bit of a cheapskate, and I confess to owning at least one fly line made of braided dinosaur hair.

All that said, I've been giving the evil eye to one floating fly line which shoots as if it was a roll of duct tape in its previous life.

With that in mind, I've been absorbing the intelligent exchange on this thread, with a new line in the back of my mind.

So, I found myself at Joe's yesterday on a non-fishing gear mission (Yes, Virginia, it is possible,) and strolled over to the fly line "department." What did I find? Cortland 333s!

What's with that? Is Joe as much a troglodyte as I am? Do they keep the "good stuff" in the back room? Is a 333 a good line but Cortland can't make any more money unless they market "new and improved?"

"Please help," as they say on the internet.

I once bought a Cortland 333 at Joe's, cranked it onto a $40 reel, stuck that onto a $60 flyrod, then this happened

RK you know cheap rods don't catch fish. Can you believe Giz actually suggested I buy a Pflueger reel?

Cortland typically makes good product. Unfortunatly they made this one. It has air chambers that fill up with water after the first crack in the line. We all know we fish with cracked fly line. This is a no purchase.
