Default scappoose area panfish

hey there. I live in st. helens and i've heard rumors and stories about fishing the MC in scappoose. I know about the access at the marina on the south side of town off of the highway by the texaco. Someone told me you could access the MC by driving past the police station (whatever the name of that road is) and follow it all the way down to the water. I tried that today but all i did was drive a big loop and end up back in scappoose after passing the airport. Does anybody out there know where they are talking about? Where exactly can you park to access the MC. the guy who told me about it does pretty well there on panfish and says i could use my float tube there. also, i noticed a large pond / lake between the airport and the loop road i took. this places the pond behind the airport. is fishing allowed in it and or are there any fish in it?? any info would be much appreciated. thanx!!

The only public access is at the end of crown zellerbach road, which is a bike/walking path at that point. Everything around the loop is private and I think the lake your talking about is one of the rock pits? I usually take the kids to Scappoose bay marina for panfish, ect.. Should get good in a few more weeks. Good luck!

I don't know about the spot you're refering to close to town but, like was said above, Scappoose bay marina(formerly Bayport Marina) has public access. I believe you have to pay for parking there.
If you don't mind driving a little further, Sauvie's Island has a ton of public fishing spots for panfish. You will need a SI parking permit on the public areas.
It is a little early in the season to expect huge results but, if you start exploring now, you'll learn the places by the time the better fishing comes around.

Go south thru Scappoose and find Johnson's Landing road. It will shortly turn into Dike Rd. should be some access along there. Google maps can be your friend.....

Might also check on prices for renting a tandom kayak/canoe from the Kayak shop their at Scapoose Bay and just paddle out to find some panfish. Might be fun.
Kids and boats are always fun, fish or no fish.
