Default New to the Board

Hello everyone this is my first post to ifish after lurking for too long. I’ve lived in Portland for a little over a year now and have come to enjoy what Oregon and Washington have to offer me as a person who loves to be outdoors. Tradition holds that you are supposed to rattle off a fishing story on your first post so here is mine. I only have one fishing story because I have only really caught one fish my entire life. If you don’t count the bluegill I used to catch out of my uncles pond using spit for bait and a bucket for a fishing pole. Or the two Coho I reeled in from the ocean on a charter, which doesn’t count because I was yakking over the side, when my buddy handed me a rod and yelled “FISH-ON”. (Growing up in the Midwest I didn’t get to spend a lot of time on the ocean.) Anyway, the first fish I caught was a 33-pound Chinook in the Columbia River. I’ll never forget my first true battle with a fish or the first time the fish flashed its chrome side to the boat before spinning off another 50 yds of line. What a beautiful sight. I decided to post to the fly-fishing forum because I’d like to spend the most time doing this particular activity this year. I’ve only fly fished once but fell in love with it immediately. It’s defiantly something I plan on doing for a long long time. So thanks for welcoming to the board and happy fishing. I will attempt to post a picture if I can figure it out.

Nick

Welcome FFlyer! We are glad to have you. We are a pretty loose knit bunch so hopefully you'll enjoy yourself
Actually the tradition on this board is to buy the moderators a really nice gift. It's just kind of a way of saying hello so if you need suggestions about what to get me please feel free to check out my recent thread about Bogden fly reels

Welcome Nick! 'Bout time buddy!

Watch out for that Stew guy. He's a little nutty. Changes his avatar twice daily.

Thanks Darian, I'm looking forward to doing some fishing with you too. I have not got my setup yet. Witing for Santa to leave it under the tree. As far as what kind of fish I like to fish for, my options are open. I'd like to be a steelhead guy, but so do most people it seems. If anyone feels like showing an extreme rookie a good spot to fish around Portland I'd love to tag along and watch and learn. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
