Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Okay you guys here is the plan for our next get together.
I was talking to GBS the other night and we want to do a "Cigars and Port" night.
Of course you don't have to light up a stogie or drink Port but me and Brad will be so join in if you want.
We need to do this at someone house and will show one or tow of Lani Wallers outstanding "Fly Fishing for Steelhead"
So if any of you want to volunteer your family room and VCR for a night of fun and maybe pizza or something let me know. Let's shoot for sometime after the first of the year.
Also perhaps sometime this winter we could do a winter steelhead fly fishing trip on a local river!
Any input out there?

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
I'd be up for it and could probably even host it. Only problem would be the stogies. They'd have to be an outdoors only thing.

Wife would gut me if stogies were released in my place, but that doesn't mean that I won't try to stink up somebody else's place.

Cigars are not mandatory. GBS and I will go outside or something.
Actually Brad McMenemins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse has a cigar and single malt Scotch night. We should check it out.
Sitting around watching Lani Waller catch fish on the Deschutes would be cool though.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
I'm all over this action. Let's find a place and time to partake in "all things bad for us" while watching some fishing. Sounds like a recipe for a good time. Let's figure a dat in late jan., maybe a friday is better for some guys.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Count me in. How about doing it this Sat. night on the Crooked?
The Grand Lodge out here in Forest Groove has a cozy little bldg. with a fireplace. Pretty sure they allow smoking there, I could check. They also have the Dr.'s Office, a smoking and drinking emporium with pool and snooker tables. Besides, it would be on the way home from the coastal rivers for many and a room at the Lodge is pretty cheap for anyone who plays too much snooker.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Quick intro, been tying since age 12 flyfishing since age 13 wife fly fishes with me. Kodiak AK. is my home waters.
Wife has purchased me a Renzetti Presentation vise (way more vise than I'll ever need) many less expensive vises just as good if not better. still really like my Thompson Model A. She has also purchased a 5' roll top desk for my fly tying materials, (so she can close the lid and hide the mess). St.Croix is my rod of choice. Wouldn't mind joining in on the fun. I need to be around people who tie one on now and then to get me back on my vise. I tie flies to catch fish not to impress the masses. If it's good enough for the fish good enough for me.
If anyone has a young tyer that is trying to get set up I have extra deer, elk, moose and antelope that I could help get them started.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Hey Kodiakfisher - Thanks for the intro.. Looks like the next gettogether could be a momentous occassion.
Not sure I qualify as young but I want to start tying flies. GreenButt was kind enough to loan me a vise and I have a couple tools but no materials. Wanna do some trading?

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
I'm sure we can work something out send me your number and I'll call you so you can pick up some materials.
If you are willing to do some work i.e cleaning out two bird skins salting I would be willing to throw in a full set of turkey wings (I'm assuming they are still on the bird?) and some elk, deer and antelope.
What do you like to tie?

kodiakfisher,
Be careful, lilnorhtfork is always trying to trade fishing stuff for his two children. They are cute, but come on now, for fishing gear??
what kind of a deal is that, fishing gear can be pretty pricey!

I have a one year old daughter that has been pretty pricey making ALL of my fishing gear look cheap. She had an open heart surgery. She is fine and doing great now.
Thanks for the warning greenbuttskunk about lilnorthfork. Your secret is out now lilnorthfork. Where is the roll call going to be? Any decisions

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Someone just pick a time and place so the rest of us camp followers, hangers on and fellow travelers can know where to show up!
Most any weeknight works for me.
I'll bring the GreenButt articulated white bunny leech I tied up to commemorate the recent No-Bull Prize fishing trip.

Giz, Stew, Riverkeeper, I FEEL the love!
I think another Mcmennimens works. Not sure if anybody has a home where cigar smoke is very condusive, especially with the Mrs.
Since we did SE port. last time, maybe cornelius roadhouse or or kennedy school.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
have you asked the people at mickey finn's if that would be allowed in their back room???? i'm not sure if it is an option, but i know you can smoke cigs back there, i know that they serve alcohol, they have some huge tv's in there and after all, they are named after a fly. just a thought. i can walk down there (i live just a few blocks from there) and ask them if they wouldn't mind blocking off a section for you/us to meet and do your/our thing. just a thought. let me know if you want me to try. do it up, I bet they would be cool with us showing a fishing video. The gruop last time loved the place too. I just figure the westside folks would want something more out their way this time, but I'm willing to drive just about anywhere for a gar and some port

I'll check with the Grand Lodge here in Forest Groove. They have a seperate bldg. with a fireplace only open on the weekends. They also have a smoking room with a pool and snooker table so that might work. If the Grove is too far out for most, let me know now. lnf

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Of course, if you all are as adventurous as some claim to be... we could use my covered patio.
Cigars - no problem,
Port - byo... better than paying a fortune for some schwagg at a bar,
Video - less threat of the Feds swooping down with a copyright infringement fine (they've done it for less).
Anybody have portable heaters? I could probably borrow a couple propane heaters. Best part is if anyone fishes the coast that day, Forest Groove is sorta on the way. Just an idea. lnf

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Cool Tanner! Let's do it then The cigars are unimportant and can be done some other time or outside if need be.
So here is the plan as I see it so far.
Tanner has offered his 60" for us to show my Lani Wallers video's on Steelhead fly fishing.
As far as snacks and drinks we could bring our own or all chip in for pizza and the like.
Sometime in February would be good and whatever date works best for Tanner should be fine with everyone else.
So Tanner you tell us what dates work best and we will come!
I have some Souza

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Do you guys want to do it on a week night or weekend. If it is a weekend Saturday the 7th is out. My wife bought me tickets to my first Oregon Symphony concert on that day. Ya know, a fella has to get a little culture somehow.
The only other night that would be out is any Thursday, aside from those days my schedule looks pretty clear.
Lets see a vote of what day of the week everyone would prefer.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Sounds good to me. Bring flies or gear for show & tell. I'll bring the articulated white greenbutt spawning bunny leech for GBS. The bull trout won't stand a chance. The bull **** might get a little deep.
Maybe some people can pick up their fly swap flies there.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
I think a weeknight would be less likely to interfere with fishing trips, etc.

Re: Fly Fisher Roll Call - Cigar and Port Night
Since I don't want to broadcast my home address on the internet, all who are gonna come please e-mail me and I will send you back directions. Please make sure you include your ifish moniker in your e-mail. If it is not there, I won't reply.
Sorry to sound paranoid, but there are too many weirdo's out there. No GBS and Stew, I'm not reffering to you, this time......
Sounds like I better get busy tying some of my funky flies. I have gotten outa the habit but am looking forward to getting back into it.
